Got a question, I need to mount some horizontal berkely rod holders in my boat but I do not want to drill any screws into the side of the boat.
Would a marine tape work best on this? Here's a pic of the inside of the boat, was thinking about putting them on the left hand side. Any ideas on how I could put them on there w/o drilling into the sides? ![]() |

I've got a similar issue, Pike. What I think I'm going to do is mount 2x4s that run from bench seat to bench seat (screwing them into the bench seats at both ends) and then mount various equipment (rod holders, sonar, etc.) on the 2x4s. This will prevent the need from drilling into he hull of the boat...something I'm not a big fan of. Had to do it for the sonar transducer, but don't want to do it again.

Thanks Murf, but I'm looking for the rod holders that will mount horizontally inside of my boat for storage. That way I have my rods secure when driving down the road and not bouncing all over the place. I just dont want to drill any more holes into the boat if I can help it.

How about using some construction adhesive?

I'd be willing to bet that PL400 would probably hold extremely well. I've used that stuff for a bunch of speaker boxes, and those ended up needing to be taken apart via sledgehammer. It adheres to several types of surfaces as well. That's a pretty good idea James....

Where can I buy that adhesive at? Walmart or would Home depot be better?
I think as long as the surface is clean, that adhesive would stick fine. Its not like 4-6 rods weigh very much. |

Sorry PH, I would try Wal Mart, Home Depot, Menard's for Liquid Nails. There are several different applications. Surely one is available.

Another thing to try is clear silicone, use a light bead and clamp until dry.

Clear silicone is what I could suggest too. It's durable, yet you can remove it a easier than construction adhesive, should you decide to move stuff around again.

Now that I think about it too, I'd second the silicone idea, and some of that stuff is just as tough as the construction adhesives.
Good idea, wirenut 8) JLK

Pike, can't tell how long your boat is, or how far apart your seats are, but what I did in my fourteen foot was mount gun racks, as in the rubber ones you put on a four wheeler rack, one on each seat, they will hold at least 2 rods, if layed alternately possibly 4 rods, they come with the rubber bungies that will hold the rods in the racks while on the move. Works pretty slick, tuck them up next to the sides of the boat, possibly a set on each side and they're pretty much out of the way.
