I always thought that if you were looking to catch and release, that circle hooks were the way to go. I use circle hooks while fishing for channels, and I usually use liver (sometimes garlic hotdog). It stays on pretty good, and I gently sweep my rod to the side when I can visibly see my pole start to bend. Seems to work well.
As for Kahle hooks, I was under the impression that if you were planning to CNR that these are not the hooks to use because they tend to hook the fish further back in the fish's mouth. This is why I use circle hooks. Have I been misinformed?
