I am currently having a problem that I have never experienced before. I recently switched to super braid line since I fish in really heavy cover. I love the super braid but my knots seem to work out for some unknown reason. I have always used a Berkley Knot with my Mono and never had a problem no matter what test of line I used. The super braid that I am currently using has a mono diameter eq of 8 lb test. IS there a different knot that I should be using with this stuff? I've lost more lures this year than ever as a result of a mid-air backlashes and the resulting sudden stop. I even had a really nice LMB untie my knot the other day right next to the bank. And yes it must of done it with it's tongue since I did not see it use it's fins. Any help would be appreciated.

I use a Palomar knot with braids. The thing with braids is they can cut the line just by friction on itself. We have the same problem once in awhile. I take extra time to make sure there is not twisted/crossed line when tying the knot. Also, the knot can slip with braids more so than mono. Take the extra second to make sure it's snugged down(wet the line well when pulling it tight) good and cut your tag end just a little longer than you would with mono.

A little dab of super glue will help with that too.

Do you mean the trilene knot? That's all I use and the only time I've had a problem was when using 30lb fireline (and the line was new and slick). I've gotten used to leaving a 3/4" or longer tag when tying knots. I still use the same knot with that same line and have zero problems now. A little dab of superglue will help or burn the tag with a lighter will help also. Once that slickness wears off some you will have less slippage.
I read an article that tested several lines and knots, palomar and braid only yielded like 60% of the lines breaking strength.

Fishing Knots Click on whichever type of knot you wanna look at. Or, Animated Knots by Grog and click on knot list.Pick the knot you want and it'll bring up an animated "how-to" on how to tie any knot.

Bet that bass was a good kisser.
I like the polamar knot with a dot super-glue.

Fish On, the Trilene knot is also a good knot for braids. It's what I use the majority of the time with the power pro brand of line. Palomar is also a very good knot. You won't go wrong with either one.

palomar knot, like everyone says. One thing I'm ALWAYS sure to do now is wet the line before pulling the knot tight. I think the line cuts into itself if you don't do that, I used to have lots of problems before using that trick.

Thanks for the help. I got a knot tying handout from Scheels and the Palomar knot is what I need to be using. I guess the correct name for the knot I have been using is the Trilene knot. Berkley tried to steal the knot about 20 years ago and had it on one of their packages as the Berkley knot thus I have called it the Berkley knot for 20 years. It almost worked for them.

Improve clinch knot works the best for me. I used just a clinch knot for years. Once I started using braided I graduated to the improved clinch. Perhaps they improved it for the very reason of braided line?

Palomar knot is the only knot I tie, regardless of presentation/technique. I've just found it to be an easy, strong knot that you can teach just about anybody. I always tie a palomar knot, then take the extra tag, and tie one more simple loop knot on top, and that ensures that it won't slip.

I have had both Improved clinch and clinch slip with heavy braid. Especially on hard hook sets with big fish. A palomer with the loop passed through the eye twice will test at close to 100% with braid. An IC will test at 90-95% if it is well seated (which is harder to get with braid), but its failure rate when actually fishing and not just testing knot strength will be much higher because of slips
