Default Depth Finder

So...the friendly people near the town I live in decided they should smash in my Lowrance. Luckily, that's all they did but now I need to replace it. So, what would you recommend? Anything to stay away from? I'd like temp for sure, and speed would be nice. I know that people feel GPS is better for actual speed. Haven't decided if I really need GPS at all yet.

What do you use? What have you used and hated? What features are nice to look for and why?

I'm sure people will ask for price range, so I'm going to say $200-$450.

I went with the 565 Humminbird. I've been very pleased with it. It has enough canned default info that it works plug and play. Also has a rational menu that lets you tweak sensitivity to conditions. Mine has temp but no speed. Speed is an option that I'll add.

Mako,

For some of the nicer lakes down in that area, you should get a GPS so that you can use the hot spots maps to find exactly where to go on the lakes. I really like the Lowrance because I know how to use them. But I know hummingbirds are very user friendly as well.

Also, Eagle is the same company as Lowrance, so if you are between these 2 brands, dont worry.

I have the Lowrance x67c to use on my float tube and I will eventually put it on a boat (when I get one). They're usually around $250. I'm kind of wishing I would have spent the extra money and bought the m68c? which is the same unit, but with GPS.

How far out in the ocean to you plan to take your float tube, Vonny? On a calm day you can still see the horizon at 15 miles.

I don't know. I was looking at some these on the ebay this morning. I figure, I could get my U-boat up to at least 7 or 8 mph with those things. I was more thinking for when I get the chance to put it on a boat and for ice fishing.

Any fin that can deliver on that promise is cheap at half the price. I think you should buy two!

Hi Mako,
Is this locator used in the bow with the foot control motor or on the dash? Do like a flasher option?
Sorry about the loss.

Dash...my bow one is still OK.

By the way, this would have happened right outside of a bar named after some college mascot in the area. I still have NE plates.

I like my Eagle. Seems as good as Lowrance but a bit cheaper. Both the same Co.

What Mako? You could not find where to fish and you brought your boat to a bar?? Hold on....something messed up with you. Better come back to NE and fix your brain by catching flathead, and you may return.

You may swim in a pool of beer, but surely you do not need a boat for that Or were you trying to find the depth of beer in pitcher??

Oh...depth finder....attach weight at the end of your line and mark every foot by whiteout.

Sam
