Had to work a little over time last nite otherwise there woulda been at least 1 entry. Stinking holiday is messin' up the fishing for today.Cookouts, kids and fireworks, friends getting together, blah, blah, blah.Don't people realize there is fish to be caught and a contest going on. Look for 1 late tomorrow morning from Brandon.Hope everyone is having a good 4th.

If you go fishing often enough, eventually you'll catch something, Alex. As Grandpa always said, "Even a blind sow can find an ear of corn once in awhile."

CJ had a great Day! We fished until the fireworks started going off just a half mile away from the pond we were fishing. CJ caught two 8 inch Bluegill and one that looks right at 9 inches. This 6 year old can flat out fish! He landed more than 20 Largemouth and more than a hundred Bluegill and Crappie catching two at a time quite a bit on a huckaby rig. My biggest Bluegill looked just short of 8 inches. We are going back out tomorrow so we have not entered yet. We are hoping for a Big Crappie, Bass, or Bluegill tomorrow. Anybody else have any cooperation today with the fish?

Nice job Carbonman! First entry!

Three things everyone should notice:

1) Carbonman was a great first entry for this contest because his entry (both pictures) were perfect - thanks for modeling that, CM!

2) I will add official Length Points (LP) to the title of each entry. See the title of Carobonman's post for an example.

3) As in the original example on Length Points, we will be rounding to the nearest hundredth - 2 places. That's why Carbonman's fish was a fraction over 18 inches (18 1/16), but still came out to an even 1 LP. (18.0625/18=1.003). It was good that he recorded that 1/16 of an inch though... we will use those little fractions in the unlikely event of a tie. Let's try to let 16ths be the floor though, I don't want to be converting 32nds all month long.

Off to catch my week 1 fish...

Default WK1-Chad: LP=1.00 (18" LMB)

4:35 AM, public water, 4wt bamboo with a black/olive WB, first cast of the contest.
I thought it was a channel cat until she realized she was hooked and started jumping. Each of her 2 or 3 jumps made for a great reflective visual from my red headlamp.

Not the best picture of her on the tape (taking pics in a float tube by yourself in the dark is tough), but I did get a good measure of her before the pic and she went right at 18" ... with 0 16ths or 32nds.

The morning was capped off with a great sunrise and cool rainbow.

I think there's gold in that house.

Default WK1-Vikes forever: LP=1.09 (15.25"GE)

the most unexpected enty

Here's my entry, and one i'm sure nobody expected, and pleased to say, before holdem's, because he's not smart enough to remember his control item .

Goldeye... private access on silver creek - on worm - 15.25"

It wasn't what i expected, but it'll do.

I may be wrong but doesnt PV open to the public at 5 a.m. Could be earlier for all I know. Just thought that these Omaha "area" lakes had a "no access" time? Just wondering, Mark

Not an official entry...but maybe dis-honorable mention?

I am going to be on vacation the last 2 weeks of July....so I was not really going to participate....good thing, because trying to get pictures of a 22 1/2 inch bass from a float tube after a 10 minute fight with your hands shaking like a recovering crack addict is not an easy task. Did not even try to get one of myself.....It had been out of the water long enough....So I got it back in ASAP.

The pictures are crap....but this is the biggest of the year.

I was just out there trying to catch two 4" bluegill and was going to lay them back to back against the control item for comic relief.....I thought this guy was a big bluegill for a while

Sad to break my precious Roadrunner when I was shaking so bad taking it out of his mouth.

After this all of the 15" - 21" cats and 12" - 17" LMB I caught were a little anti-climatic.

p.s. --- much different zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz than a regular bass!

Default WK1-jetdriver1: LP=.81 (14.5" LMB)

Jetdriver1, Contest, Week One, Large Mouth Bass, 14.5 inches, Walnut Creek, 5 July 08, Scum Frog, shore casting.

WINDY!! Between fish flopping, urgency to get it back in water, measuring tape blowing around, and contest ID Tag blowing into the cattails 3 times, cell phone self photo....whew...I was busier than a one legged man in an a** kicking contest! Certainly not a winner but I hope this qualifies!

Good luck to all.
Cheers!

Jet

Skershaw, I'll TELL you where generic was, all you have to do is take some time and follow the black subarbans with tinted out windows pulling a jet black stocking trailer. These 22" wipers were stocked in the Weeping Water City pond about two weeks ago!

Nice fish Dusty!
