Maybe the operators of this site can create a new "Rant" forum, I'm getting sick of seeing all of these posts like this! Then to add fuel to the fire every person has to comment on every little aspect of your post "you kept how many fish", "you should have asked permission", "that would be illegal", etc. etc. Can't the fishing forum be just fishing reports or fishing related questions. There is my rant! Some of you need to get off of the computer, quite your b*tching and go fishing!

Is it ok if I just give em a from a distance...cause...well...

That's too bad to hear about the experience...I didn't have a bad experience with the owners up there, just with the cabins and that lake. I was under the impression the lake and the fish cleaning station were public, so I'd have probably been in the same boat(pun intended)...well, except I don't keep fish. Three words for ya (well, 3.5 with the contraction)...

I hope not! Besides, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy YOUR opinion on this thread!

I found this:

NGPC FAQ's: Big Alkali Lake renovation

that should answer a lot of questions.

Yep; the game and parks is paying for the renovations so if I am up there I WILL use the cleaning station if I am staying there or not!!

That's what I've been thinking from the beginning. I'm paying for part of the renovations through park sticker, fishing license, habitat stamp. End of story in my head.

In my opinion, I don't think the guy had any right to be like that. From what I have seen of his posts throughout my time on the board, Nerd is a great guy. At the the very least, the guy could have been a hell of a lot more respectful towards Nerd and his family.

I actually like these kinds of posts. What is wrong with a guy telling of his expereinces and giving an opinion?

Everyone at some time in life is in the wrong, but does that constitute somone coming up and giving you hell instead of being more civil and trying to make a right instead of making things a whole lot worse?

Nerd was simply stating his experience there in the hopes that if anybody else should go there to check things out before assuming what is for public use and what is private. It is something that can be used for all of our benefit. We live and learn from other's experiences. What is done is done and there is nothing we can do now about. There is no rewind button.

There has been some great advice put on this post about how to treat establishment owners and for that, thank you, but don't critisize nerd for something he really did not have any control over. Take it in and learn from it.
Wasn't trying to attack Nerd, just making him aware. Not trying to defend the cabin owner either, just trying to see his point of view.

Wirenut, I'm not trying to come back at ya and sorry if it came across like that. Just sounding off I guess. That is what makes this forum great. We are all entitled to an opinion. I can see where you are coming from though. I am really glad Nerd posted this. I would be interested to hear if anybody else has an encounter like this at Alkali.

So the correct response, Nerd, would be "Back off, it's just as much my lake and cleaning station as yours." Sounds like that would've gone pretty well for ya, too.

I've never been up there but from what I can gather

a. the lake is public domain owned, manintained and managed by G&P
b. unbeknowst to many the fish cleaning station is owned and maintained by G&P
c. the cabins are owned, maintained and managed by a private individual.

It that correct?

I posted the question to the NGPC. I got the answer that I expected too. I have never targeted the crappies while I make my bi-annual trip to the refuge. I have on rare ocassion stopped and used the cleaning station while vistiting friend that tent there. I may make it a point to stop there everytime I'm up at the refuge just to take my limit of crappies and stop bye on the way out and mention how great the crappie fishing was! I have stoppped many times and bought ice, food, tackle, ect... from the office there and haven't stayed at the cabins for several years now. I give him my business in that way. I hope anyone that gets disrespected and harrased like this let's the rest of us know about it. If enough people get treated this way maybe we could voice an opinion somehow to him that he will take to heart. I noticed on the fish camp website he is really promoting this lake as if he hopes it becomes just another Branched Oak or Johnsons. Talks about skiing and that sort of water recreation. I hope to god I don't live to see the day when I take a picture of a buddies fish and someone is in the back ground skiing or riding a jet ski. To me, if the price of having a fish camp there is to promote water skiing and stuff. Close the camp!! I whole heartedly support you Nerd!!!!!

I was just up there after you were.... he and his familly treated us very well.... that being said, I think the way he treated you was bs..... Im certain that the state owns the entire lake and all the facilities on the property, as of a few years ago.... the state only pays him to manage it and allows him to profit from it.... not sure what kind of contract they have but, I know they paid for the new restroom/shower houses, and renovation of all the cabins, along with the rv pads and el hookups. you might want to express your concern with the state.
