I'll try this again. I must've hit the wrong key and deleted my post.......not that it matters.
As a newbie to the fly rod I liked the article. I barely know which end is which.............well actually I do have that one figured out. Now I know what type of fly to try next, where to place it and a few other things to try. Sometimes it's not the end reslut but the journey. I bought the flyrod because I liked the idea of flies or lures or whatever your choice from natural materials to mimic natural food. That and I get confused by all the many bass lures on the shelf. I still use my night crawlers, basic plastic worm, might even go back to minnows again for my rod and real. Oh ya and I still prefer the old Zebco 202 to anything I've tried. I can say this. With the little time I've had with my fly rod I have NEVER had so much fun not catching fish. But I'll catch some, if not this weekend then next. |

If you ever want to hook up for some tips let me know, a little instruction from anyone with experience will pay dividends in the fish catching department!
Once you get it down you can catch anything and in good numbers, as far as size goes you are not resticted there either. I carry my 8 and 4 wt with me always and two spools of line for each. ![]()

This post makes for a good opportunity to introduce some of you to my buddy Jake Latendresse' new website. The two friends of his that he took on this trip have guided fly fishermen for many years and have had the chance to flyfish all over the country. Before they left, they mentioned that this was one of the best flyfishing trips that they have ever had (right here in Nebraska). If this story and pics doesn't get you excited about fly fishing, I don't know what will. Check it out. There will be a video of this trip up very soon.

My favorite activities in order of preference:
1. Waterfowl hunting 2. Trout on the fly 3. Bass fishing One of the few things in common with all three is that you need a lot of "stuff". You get to waste your money on countless gadgets, decoys, poles, flies, fly boxes, line, lures, a crazy looking fly vest, soft plastics, calls, etc, etc. on all three hobbies. I think that is partly why I am so obsessed with all three. You will never run out of stuff to buy and mess around with. Some like simplicity, but I prefer complication. Good Hunting, PATRICK OLSON |
