Clouser, Moser, Blanton, Halford, Skues, & Grant inducted into FF HOF; RIP Fran Betters

In recognition of their major and significant contributions to the fly fishing community, the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, on Saturday, October 17, 2009, inducted Gardner Grant, Bob Clouser, Dan Blanton, Roman Moser, Frederick Halford (posthumously), and George E.M. Skues (posthumously) into the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame.

Fran Betters, originator of the Ausable Wulff and the Haystack, died peacefully in his sleep on September 6th, 2009.

I last saw Fran in late July. Despite his condition, he was sitting at the vise tying flies. I was fortunate to have him autograph one of the books in my collection that did not bear his mark.

Fran shared his vast knowledge of the Ausable River unselfishly with everyone. The world was a better place when he was here; it will be a better place based on our aspirations to emulate his life.
