Panhandle

Garden County -- a large number of sandhill cranes and ducks were observed in Lewellen area.

North-central

Loup, Garfield Valley counties – some eagles, Canada geese, ducks, swans, wild turkey, white-tailed deer may be seen in area; Rock, Brown, Keya Paha counties – good numbers of eagles in area.

Northeast: no report

Southwest

Enders Reservoir – some migrating waterfowl in area; Swanson Reservoir – some migrating waterfowl, some sea gulls over open water; Lake Ogallala – lots of Canada geese and sandhill cranes moved through area.

Area Conditions – Medicine Creek Reservoir – roads and trails around the reservoir still muddy; Republican River – good-fair amount of water in river.

South-central

Buffalo, Kearney, Fillmore, Clay, Adams counties – very large numbers of ducks and dark geese moved into and through area, some sandhill cranes and eagles also in area; Harlan, Franklin, southern Phelps counties – lots of waterfowl and a few eagles in area; Hall, Merrick, Hamilton counties – lots of dark geese, ducks, sandhill cranes, eagles in the area; Dawson County -- large numbers of waterfowl and eagles, particularly in the Platte River Valley; Clay County – numerous waterfowl and bald eagles in area; Lincoln County -- some sandhill cranes moved into area.

Area Conditions: Kearney, Buffalo counties – road conditions improved after storm – I-80 Lakes – ice conditions deteriorated; Hall, Merrick, Hamilton counties – lots of slush in Platte River and most rainwater basin areas frozen; Dawson County – ice on most ponds, lakes unsafe.

Southeast

Douglas County – good numbers of waterfowl and raptors may be seen along Platte River; Gage County – good numbers of eagles observed in area.

Area Conditions: Cass County – many country roads impassible; Douglas County – ice conditions on most ponds, lakes extremely poor.

Here's what's coming up in the outdoors:

The first sandhill cranes are arriving on the Platte River, number peak in late March.
