Default What's that sound?

I was out at the pond tonight and heard a strange bird. First off the pond is surrounded by heavy woods with farm fields around the woods. The nearest farm is maybe 3/4 mile away, and the pond is a good 1/4 from a low maintenence road.
The sound was coming from 3 completely different areas of the woods maybe 20 yards from the water, but it was like a raspy rooster cluck but longer, they would "cluck" 3 or 4 times and then flap their wings, like beating their chest or something, the flapping was a low very strong sound.
Were these turkeys possibly? I stood and watched each time but could not see anything moving.

ok, after a little research, I think I found the sound:

only it was followed with the wing beating. This is good news for me, I have permission to hunt on this land, and would be the only one out there with permission. I also see a number of nice deer out there nearly every time I go.

Nighthawks will make some interesting sounds around a pond too.

pretty sure it was a "big" bird, from the volume of the sound and the beating of the wings, was for sure a bigger wing movement.

So it was exactly the same, only different? Sorry. Couldn't resist.
