Default Just a few feathered friends.

You might enjoy some of these shots. My camera and tripod are working great.

I am using the Fuji S700. Not high priced--around 180 bucks. 10 meg and 10x zoom.

What I learned and damn well should have known was to enlarge the pic to 100% and then crop the image. Then when the picture is reduced to store the details stay with it unlike what happens when you reduce the whole picture.

I get the same results now with the Canon Rebel Xti but this little one is handier in some ways. Also a tripod is important for the shakey shooter.

Here are a few more examples. Hope you enjoy them.

This is the Harris's sparrow. It nests in Canada.

The pics were all taken within a 40 foot range.

Those are some really nice bird pictures Pacman. Are they from your yard? If I have time later I will try to ID all the birds, am surprised none of our resident obsessive-compulsive types have done that yet.

I got a new camera for my birthday in October last year, it has a built in shake control (good for those 4-5 cups of coffee mornings) that seems to work pretty well. So far I have not run into a situation where I really wished for a tripod.

Carilee, they are all locals. My bird seed bill has increased over the years. I am up to about $50 monthly. Got an Indigo Bunting messing around but they are very hard to catch on camera.

OK here are my guesses. #1 is a redbellied woodpecker. #2, the upside-down guy, no idea. #3 is an American goldfinch, #4 a mourning dove, #5 a house finch. #6 appears to be a rosebreasted grosbeak, #7 I concur with the Harris's sparrow ID, #8 a Baltimore oriole, #9 another American goldfinch.

#2 upside down guy is the clown. Nuthatch. We have two kinds here. I have a pic of the other type. I will try to find it.

Here is the red breasted nuthatch. Don't see this around very much.

I concur with the ID's, I love birds. But I've often referred to the "house finch" as a "purple finch." Someone remind me, is that two names for the same bird, or two similar but different birds? (I think it is the latter...).

Nice spread of birds, you'll get the indigo picture yet. My parents have a couple that nest in their trees. I'm surprised you don't have any downy woodpeckers posted yet, it seems they go hand-and-hand with the mix you have above. Keep posting

The purple finch is a different bird. I do have a downy I think but it was last year but a good shot. I will try to dig it up.

We have the big dude around also. Pileated or something like that.

#2 is a white-breasted nuthatch, and as was said, house finches and purple finches are indeed two different birds.

GREAT pics! Thanks for posting! Very cool!

I love hearing house finches sing, they have a fairly complicated song compared to most of our local birds.

Here is a youtube of a house finch singing:

We probably have 10 pair around us and they can get noisy. Lots of singing.

Keep posting those great pictures, Pacman. I can't afford $50 a month for seed, but I don't need to with your photos!

Here you are OBG. These cardinal pics were taken in Ponca. They nest about three feet from Ma's kitchen window.

The little ones hatched about 4 days after these pics but they were very small and I could not get a shot of them.

A couple of times, behind the audio/visual of the house finch singing, it sounded like there was another finch singing. Maybe they were calling to each other or doing the, "This is my territory, you stay over there" thing.
