I am glad there are others out here who enjoy the "backyard" birds. I just love being outdoors in my yard with camera in hand sitting in the quiet watching all the birds and critters.
And vrentropy thanks for the advice with the camera too. I know very little about the settings. I love taking pics, but usually use auto everything, but with this camera (Olympus point & shoot SP-550UZ) I have alot I can do with it. I bought it originally because it was point & shoot and it has an 18x optical zoom. I figured I could get a decent zoom and still not have to know to much to get some decent pics. The more I use it though the more I want to utilize it so I guess I may need to read up on it more. For some reason the information I learned from my photography class I took in high school is not in my memory anymore!!!

I remember on the old Game and Parks forum there was an unofficial "Official Ladies Only Thread." I wish a lot of those ladies would find this forum. There was a lot of talk of backyard birds, plus gardening, photography, flowers, etc. If anyone knows any of those ladies, maybe they could encourage them to come back online. There were some interesting posts, and several were about birds.

Just an update, the bluebirds are still here, and they do go in the nextbox quite a bit. They are very aggressive with the sparrows now so I am hopeful they are here to lay eggs (if they haven't already). I have not looked in the nestbox in the last few days, but the last time I did look I could not tell if there were eggs or not. Just a lot of grass nest! Here are a couple pics I got of the pair when they were in the tree by my birdbath.

Default BABY Bluebirds

Well, I am back online. My computer died about a month ago so I have been limited to what I can do. I finally got a new one (way faster then the old one, YAHOO) and got it all set up. And I finally looked in the bluebird box and snapped a couple quick pics. I think there are two babies in there, but there could be more I don't know. I did not want to take to much time to look. I finally have baby bluebirds. I hope to get more pics when they get a bit bigger and are leaving the nest.

I have been seeing a pair in the big cottonwoods. I will have to get a house for them next year.

hey meanjean, are you aware of the organization, "Bluebirds Across Nebraska"? Here's their website: Bluebirds Across Nebraska

They put out a newsletter with lots of tips on houses, keeping sparrows away, etc. I'm not a member but I have a couple of the newsletters, pretty cool. I like your pictures! Congrats on the babies.

Thanks for the website link Carilee, I will check it out. My babies have fledged from the house and I have yet to see them. I still see papa and Mama a lot catching bugs etc and flying around so I know theyare still feeding them somewhere close. I have lots of big old trees in my yard and next door so they are probably in there somewhere. I am keeping a keen watch.
