If a guy was a complete Noob at fishing for Muskies, and wanted to stay as close to Central Nebraska as possible. What advice would you give?
Where to go? What bait? How to fish it?

I haven't been there yet, but I've heard Calamus might be decent. I don't know much about the lake yet. If there is a place with lots of rocks, near cover or deep water. I would try there first. But I am by no means even close to an expert!

Actually, Lancaster is my county and Lincoln is my city.

Then Brian's answer is correct, Wagon Train is your nearest bet with fish over two years old. Elwood is one that is not too far and has some nice fish but you need to get on it before it is out of water (irrigation season). Merrit and Cottonwood/Steverson are quite a drive. In IA three mile is an option as is Okoboji once the season opens.

In central NE they have been stocking muskies in calamus for the last couple years I believe. I know they did for sure last year. Plus if you needed some one to tag along......Im only about 40 miles from calamus.... ![]()

They have been stocking Calamus for a couple of years but the density is not as high as some other lakes. It will be a good lake for muskies and especially for big fish due to size and forage but there aren't very many fish per acre there yet.
