Fisherman, musky hunter whatever.....call me whatever you want. I could care less. I just wanted to point out why people on this section of the forum would be a bit "passionate" to the topics. They/We care about musky fishing and it's future in NE.

Probably just a guess but if a guy shot a 20" bass out of Wagontrain spillway it seems too me that you would be just as illegal as you would be for shooting a 36" musky out of the same spillway. Just plain breaking the law whether you are a 15 year old kid or a 40 year old adult. Know the regs before taking gamefish.

Just as illegal? Absolutely. But there aren't muskie in every body of water from streams to ponds to reservoirs in this state like there are bass. Every bass you see or catch didn't have to be raised on minnows for a year and stocked. I agree with you, know the regs, and don't shoot undersized fish. But it's the fact that every muskie in the state is raised by the NGPC and is rather costly that makes it seem like shooting those fish is a bit more impactful than shooting a bass.

I would tend to agree with that statement if you could legaly remove the muskie from the spillway and put them back in the main lake? Other than that what is the future of the muskie in the spillway? Havent really got an answer on that yet.

The point isn't that the fish will die anyway, its that shooting an undersize muskie is illegal, why can't you get that through your head. Just because it's going to die eventually doesn't make it legal!

I understand that buddy, if someone shoots a legal fish they shouldnt be kicked around just because they shot a muskie. Its a fish for crying out loud. I understand its illegal , I have yet to hear of a musk actually being taken out of the main waters of wagon train, just the spillway.

I would not be angry if bowfishing for sportfish was banned, but until it is there is nothing anyone can do if the fish was taken legally. The only people that can changed this is the G@P not us , bowfishing is as just as much of a sport as fishing also. I heard a guy say that you cannot eat a bowshot muskie, why is that?

Get it through...it doesn't matter a tinker's damn about the fish in the spillway. How many times does it have to be said? It is the fact that it was an illegal fish.

Furthermore, in order to prevent illegal actions in the future, why not be proactive about the regulation...
Lastly, if you knew anything about muskies and their habits at all, you'd find it to be entirely plausible that they could be speared, shot or otherwise, hence many states regulations on the subject...
Your lack of intelligence on the subject at hand is showing through in the discussion. I'm not saying that YOU aren't intelligent, but I'm saying that you are not versed in muskies, or their habits, and therefore don't have a leg to stand on here.

Although this has been very entertaining..
In stead of all this bickering going on between the two of you, lol, why don't you just enlighten him on the stuff that he is not educated in so that you two will get somewhere in this debate. I would be very interested in some information about muskies as well.

Keep up the good work.

i understand what you are saying....you are talking about the impact shooting a muskie in the spillway has on muskie populations and opportunities right? lets take legality out of the picture since it relates to this instance only and a young kid. first of all if someone is on an actual lake in nebraska trying to shoot a muskie....then they probably know what they are doing and can judge the length of a legal fish basking in the shallows. does anyone actually do this? probably not. second, if fish are not catch and release only you should have the right to harvest them with a bow....regardless of species. everyone has a fish they respect and admire and wish was only c&r, me included, but that does not make that fish better than others. third, these fish were shot in a spillway, they will either die or end up in salt creek...how many muskie anglers frequent salt creek? personally i don't think this spillway incident should be a good reason to change any laws...although shooting illegally sized fish is wrong and careless.

for the record i bowfish only for rough species and would like to see muskies c&r only. however, since they are not C&R, i think bowfishing should be legal....i don't think it will affect muskie fishing in nebraska at all. most people that pursue them respect them.
