Numerous times on this forum people have used the "defense" that the fish won't survive in the spillway because it's too hot, too many fisherman. Well, a month later and there are still fish in it, not to mention that the spillway creek eventually hits Salt Creek where if I'm not mistaken some of our forum members have caught and released muskie!

Laws are set to be followed and one should do so. It's the expectation we all have when we purchase our annual fishing license. If I had it my way, I would not allow fisherman to harvest muskie via bow, nor any sportfish in my opinion. However it is legal. I will not call you out on that, but, on the other hand I would not post about this topic on a muskie forum where you know that people are going to cringe over the thought of a dead muskie, especially in a state with hardly any water to fish for them.

Most of those fish in the spillway are going to perish that simple.

The question is do you feel that gives people the right to illegally shoot/harvest them?

Do you think that the muskies inc. club could do something about this...Maybe go and catch some of those muskeis and transport them into the main lake... maybe they could do this for one of the outings or something, I think the club would have a lot of fun catching them and saving them but Its just an idea

I've been advised by NGPC staff that we, as a group, would not be allowed to do so.

alright, I just came accross this thread, the kid that shot the turned in for state record fish shot both those fish, I was down there, his friend did not shoot either of them. Both were huge fish, congrats to him. Not that it really makes a diff. but that kid for sure shot both those fish.

Was he legal if he shot both the muskies? I was there, they were fixing there story up when there mom came and got them, they used my cellphone to call her. I honestly don't know the rules on this or not, can you shoot 2 of them?

I guess I was doing something illegal as well, I did bum him a cigarette, didn't know he was under 18.

tmn...after witnessing that, I would have bummed a cig off of him too. you did the right thing there.

hey, at least some kid got them. good for him. I didn't get it in. glad he did.

if nothing else...he just set the bar VERY high for the rest of his lifetime...will be tough to top his catch here in NE anyway.

My opinion is that it is wrong to bowfish muskies, carp thats fine. But not sportsfish. And two of them in one day? But like I stated before those fish are going to die anyways so it really doesnt matter I guess.

I'll be Captain Obvious: I think someone just lost all credibility on this forum... it changed quickly from "he shot both muskies..." to "his friend shot one of them..." and now a witness... stay tuned for the rest of the story

Alright captain obvious, I am posting what I am being told, this kid is apparently lying to me. If tmn saw him shoot them both then fine, and it really doesnt surprise me that they "concocted" a story to tell people. I will take tmn's word for it. He is down there enough to see and know what goes on. The pics the kid sent me even had him holding the one and his friend holding the other. I suppose I've been takin for a sucker. And I guess your right, my cridibility is gone. Woody

Well, I'd like to apologize to everyone for starting this thread. I started it more as a way of saying "hey, I saw a nice muskie in the spillway, I hope someone catches it and saves it". It's since drifted significantly, and probably doesn't need to be here anymore. I hope I didn't have anything to do with drawing attention to the fact that these fish would be easily targetted.

Sorry all!

True, this thread has veered off course a 'tad but, it has brought to the surface a few good issues.

I haven't seen anything that crosses "the line", yet.

the thread lives on......

I still have only heard about it through this thread. Are there any pics to get posted up? I haven't seen any news clips either. Does any one have a news release or story from a local paper to put up either?
Just curious. Would put some teeth behind the story, so to speak...

I guess I should apologize for calling you out in that way Woody... you seemed to flip-flop like a nervous politician though. If your friend did nothing illegal, then congrats to him! I don't think I could be uber proud about the fish in that situation...

When you see it, you won't be dissapointed. This was a VERY nice fish! This fish lived a long time on that stringer too, such a tough species. I would think with all the talk of these muskies dieing down there in a hurry that after they get a aarow put in them that they would die very very fast, nope this one was still kickin after they left the spillway to go home! hmmm wish I could catch one

That's where I draw the line. This thread is now closed.

And, don't bother posting pics of an arrow-shot muskie on this board....it won't last long.
