Ladies and Gentlemen!
Well, it looks as if spring my finally be on it's way... maybe. It's time to start thinking fishing line recycling bins again. I know we have a few exciting projects in this area that will happen fairly quickly this year. I think our goal for this year is to reach 100 bins placed across the state. We're going to alter the way we do business a bit, on getting the bins in place this year, but more about that later. First and foremost, I will post a list of the bins we have along with list of volunteers we have for those bins. There will probably be a few holes to fill That's the most important thing really, from our end, making sure all the bins are manned properly so that they get visited every two weeks or so or at least a couple times a month during the busy fishing season. I wish to thank you all for your continue support of the Fishing line recycling program. |

Just a brief comment and observation...
I've JUST started fishing again (as of 7/09). I fish Prairie View a lot, 'cause it's close to me. After joining this forum, late July last year, I became aware of this program AND everyone's efforts to keep our lakes clean and to pick up litter. I wanted to do my part... But, while at PV and having a handful of line I pulled out of the "lake-trees" (save the birds too ya know!), I found that the line-bin was full of trash. I looked around and realized that there were ZERO trash barrels! My point is, I'm glad that someone was thoughtful enough to pick up some/their trash, but found that "our" line-bins are being used for trash as well... and - obviously - fill up very quickly when used for trash. I've started keeping garbage bags in my truck and cart-home the stuff I pick up. BUT, I would think that G&PC/DNR/etc. should have trash barrels available? Not saying that is the answer as I know that by having trash barrels there, now there would have to be scheduled pick-up's etc. And if EVERYONE practiced carry-in/carry-out, it wouldn't be a problem to begin with. BUT... not everyone does. Again, just an observation from someone that is - like you - trying to keep our waterways clean. Keep up the good work! |

Good points, about the trash.
The trash really is the big problem. Almost none of Nebraska's public waters have regular trash bins w pick up. Too expensive for the state to fund it, too abused and too really not gonna happen unless we find a way to fund and monitor it. Hey, if you've got some fishing line that you've been gathering from our bins over the last year or whatever in the Omaha area, drop me a PM and I'll get with you and get that picked up. You guys in Lincoln, if someone can gather all the line that's been collected up, I'll get a mailer down there so you can send it in. Same with Harold and his mob out in Kearney, just let me know. I'm looking over our volunteer list, I'll have something up by the end of the week to get us moving forward, since it may actually get to be Spring here some day. |

Anyone around Lincoln that has any line to turn in can send me a pm as I'm meeting Steve on Saturday. I can meet you somewhere and collect it all. I can give you the volunteer patch also.
Thanks, Rich |

Anybody in the Kearney area with a collection of bin line, shoot me a PM to make arrangements to get it picked up.
Steve, I still have the original box you gave me, so don't worry about getting a box to Kearney. Slim
