Default Bin building dates - 2009

I'd like to propose we have two get togethers to build bins early this year.

I'd like to see us have one event in the Kearney/Grand Island area and the other date in the Omaha/Lincoln area.

How about Feb 7, 2009 and March 7, 2009. Both are Saturdays and it doesn't matter to me which we would do where.

I'd arrange for materials to be present and we'd just take a couple hours and build say, a dozen of these things at each event to get us started for 2009 so the bins are all ready to go when we need them.

Thoughts?

At this time both dates work for me and I'd be happy to help get some new bins built!

Steve, if the March one is in Kearney, and if you moved it just one week later to the middle of the month, you might encourage more folks from the Lincoln and Omaha area to drive out there because that will be closer to the peak of the sandhill crane migration, which usually occurs right around St. Patrick's Day. Just a thought...

Feb. 7 in the Omaha-Lincoln area should work for me.

I will be in Cedar Rapids on the 6th of February and in Lincoln on the 7th. My committment on the 7th is at 7:05 PM, so a pow-wow in Omaha could be viable.

Is the crane season over in (Kansas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Texas) by March 7? If so, I will be Kearney on both the 7th and 14th of March.

Alrighty then, Feb 7th in Omaha and March 15th in Kearney?

We're gonna need to find a member in each location with a garage we can mess up for a couple hours.

Anyone up for that?

As Slimdog will attest, my garage would NOT be a viable location. If we can't convince Hookem (or someone else) to provide a location in GI, I might suggest we take a road trip and make some "installations". I expect at least one in Kearney, one in Broken Bow and one in Anselmo. I'm being kind, as those numbers are real with probable additions by March.

If the assembly education is the primary reason for the two events, I would hope to be able to drag Slimdog to GI if Hookem or someone else is available, and if not Slimdog may be able to put up with me to Omaha on the 7th.

If I remember right, he was a Lincoln Stars fan...

(I do have a storage unit with a ProCraft Boat in it that can be removed to offer ample space, but the only heat source is the sun when the door is open.)

I am good for both dates. They are on the schedule. Regarding the viability of Harold's garage, he has it disorganized his way. Should it become reorganized, Harold as we know him, may cease to exist.

Steve, can you give us an idea of the scope of the actual bin building? Will we be cutting PVC to length, painting, drilling holes, gluing, etc? The reason I ask is if it is a matter of assembling the pre-prepared components and education on installation, we may be able to use the ERC at Yanney again. Just an idea if we can not find another location.

(From what I remember of the Cottonmill & Ft. Kearney builds/installs, other than drilling a few holes there is not much mess to putting a bin together, but Steve may have had everything ready to rock before he got to town…)

A-MEN to that! My Remington Outback tent that I took to Alaska has been missing for three years, and I am hopeful that it is in there somewhere... I'm not goin' in there unless I'm "packin' ".

Hopefully by the end of the week we'll have some info about a bin placement at Yanney Park.

Stay tuned for those "inquiring minds" that want to know...

Anyone in town in Omaha have a garage they would volunteer for a couple hours on Saturday, Feb 7th so that we can get together and build some fishing line recycling bins?

Steve, I have a more pro-active Scout that wants to particpate/organize a thing for the bins for his Eagle Project. Is this still doable?

Steve, do we need to reconsider the Feb. 7 date for Omaha, given the conflict with the Holiday Inn Swap Meet booth staffing needs?

Roger, I think the Omaha question has solved itself as, Nathaniel, the Eagle scout in question, has contacted me and I think we can use him to build the bins that need built in Omaha!!

Thanks Scott!!

Let's hear it for Nathaniel!

SKershaw, we're counting on you for some pictures of Nathaniel at work.

I don't know about Kearney, but could possibly use one at Arnold Park, Arnold; Melham Pond, Broken Bow and Victoria Springs State Park, Anselmo. Please contact me for further help or information.

I will have to check but, it may be possible to use my garage or my father-in-laws shop, if you don't mind driving to Broken Bow. Could probably get some other members from the area to get involved too.

Melham and Victoria both have been approved and sponsors secured!

Arnold as well as Davis Creek are on the "active" list, as is the Ravenna lake. Updates will come as they are available.

PM received, Hank. I look forward to your call. Hopefully we can move Arnold up with your help. We may have a sponsor (or two) secured for Ravenna. I'm waiting for a phone call on that location.

PLEASE, ANYONE IN THE CENTRAL NE AREA call my cel at 308-238-1017 ANYTIME if you have an interest in a location, as a volunteer or even a sponsor!

I hope to provide a better information page soon. Dadgum business keeps getting in the way!
