Slimdog, if you get me that reel, maybe we can get it to work, and donate it to a neighbor kid...

Bin Location/Lake: Two Rivers #3
Date: 10/11/08
Volunteer: OBG
Amount of Line Collected: 9 fairly substantial wads of line
Misc in bin: prepared bait tub, AA battery, empty plastic pop bottle, 1/16 oz. jig, 1 split shot
Other comments: Only a true moron would put the junk listed above in the recycling bin as the bin's post is surrounded by trash barrels. You literally have to reach over a trash barrel to place something in the bin.

Bin Location/Lake: Two Rivers #5
Date: 10/11/08
Volunteer: OBG
Amount of Line Collected: 1 wad of line
Misc in bin: 2 rusty hooks and old swivel
Other comments: lnteresting that there would be anything in this bin as Lake #5 has been closed to fishing for several weeks

Bin report from Crete Area:

Walnut Creek:
This fishery was renovated last year, little fishing activity. NO line in the bin. NO TRASH in the bin, but a six pack of empties in the grass behind, and one infant swing seat, blue in color, "fished" out of the water by the boat ramp. Also an empty propane cannister and half a "bluerock" was picked up and "filed appropriately" by the Ramer family.

Olive Creek:
About 1/3 full, line only. This bin was empty when I was there last month.

Swan Pond:
NO TRASH in the bin, about 1/2 full. Lots of fishing activity going on after 4:00 PM.

I did apply Loc-Tite to the screws holding the signs at all three locations. I doubt that will stop those that want one in their dorm room (RE: Walnut Creek sign missing, 2 miles North of Crete... home of DOANE College... ha )

I noticed that the only way to remove the line was to "reach in" as the bottoms were sealed. (Just an observation, not a "critique" ) I did leave the line in, so as not to "undermine" the "stewards of the bins", The Crete Community Youth group.

I did leave an NEFGA card with Mr. Ramer at Walnut Creek. He is interested in more information about the Crete Youth organization, as son Damon may find an interest in their activities!

What makes the NEFGA such an exciting organization to be a part of? How about a guy from Kearney being "accepted by" some dude South of Omaha, that has contact with a Youth Group in Crete and through that, being able to connect a Crete area youth with THEIR local Youth Organization!

This "world" of ours "ain't so big"!

Harold,

Thanks for running that new sign out to Swan Pond.

I'll be putting some pics up this week of the line boxes being loaded to go back to Berkley. We've got a nice bunch of line, we surely do!

Thanks to all of you! Next year, this thing is going to be bigger and even more widespread.

Which reminds me, I have a rash that needs tending to!!

Keep those reports coming and if anyone has a batch of line to turn in for the mailing, drop me a note here or PM me and I'll make arrangements to get it from you!!

Rock On!!

Well, I'd think that folks could be thinking of making one more run out to their bins here before it gets cold.

I'll be around this weekend, PM me if you have line that you'd like to get to me to mail back. We've got ton's enough for a couple boxes full to be mailed back to Berkley, but I'll take whatever you've got!!

Were the lines mostly ice fishing lines? Do you think people will re-spool come spring and drop their lines off into the bins?

Not much ice line, looks like most of the stuff in the boat dock bin had come off of open water gear, prob placed there by ice fishermen hitting the ice via the ramps.

I really hope people who respool soon drop off the lines!

Holdem, do you 'spose if we "hung" a cheap mesh trash container below the Bin on that dock it would discourage trash in the Bin?

I would HATE to see this program turn into a "trash can" program, but it seems in a few select locations it might be advantageous to the volunteers.

I don't think it would make any difference to the knotheads, Harold. One of my bins is three steps away from a 55-gal. garbage can, the other is right next to three of them. Knotheads put crap in the recycling bin because they think (and I use the word loosely) they're clever.
