Default How often?

I'm finding an every-other-week schedule is more than sufficient to empty our two periscopes at Two Rivers. What are you guys seeing elsewhere?

I haven't really decided on a set schedule as of yet (CatfishSteve just got ours installed last weekend), but I am going to check them on a weekly basis for the first month to try and get a feel for the usage. I am thinking every other week will be the longest I go between checking the bins. Reason being, to make sure they don't get full of trash.

A couple of questions: Has anyone had any problems with bees/wasps/etc? If so, what's the best way to get rid of them, should they take up residence?

Thanks...Corey

Take Harold with ya and let him have the privilege of being the first one to open up the treasure chest.

Good call, Alex! But then I would have to put up with Harold, which can be worse than the bees!

Can't speak to wasps or yellow jackets, but you shouldn't have to worry about bees taking up residence in our periscopes, Corey. Bumblebees are ground nesters. Honeybee swarms prefer cavities with a much smaller entrance -- their "ideal" front door is just 3/8th of an inch because that's the size their guard bees can most easily defend. When you see them colonize a cavity with a larger outside opening (like a rotted tree), there's usually a significant constriction somewhere between the outside opening and the cavity. They also prefer a lower entrance, too, so they can maintain high temps in the nursery section of the hive.

I've been making it out every week or every two weeks to the bins at TR. Which reminds me, I need to get out there this week!!

I think I'll have enough line together to fill a box to send back to Berkley here soon.

The best thing I've had so far was a dirty baby diaper. That was really mean, OBG!!

I hope you meant to write Louisville. Have we both been checking the Two Rivers bins?

You're wearing gloves when you check these things, I hope? Did it fall out the bottom of the bin or did you have to reach in for it? Okay, Too Much Information.

Default You have the other key...

Steve, it probably won't be necessary, but if you happen to be out to Two Rivers the last week of this month, please DO check my bins as I'll be gone from 7/15 through about 8/3. (I just checked them Thursday evening, so they should be okay for a couple of weeks.)

Will do!! Hey, did you do those bins at Lville lately? I checked them yesterday and they were almost empty!!

I'll check your bins at TR next weekend as I'll be out there anyway.

oddest thing i found today, was a buisness card from a certain pointy headed biologist. Wonder if he was out there and made a deposit, or if someone thought that highly of him.

I am located in Fairbury and should you need anyone to check the one I saw installed at Swan Lake (Williard Meyer) up by Tobias my fishing buddy or myself will take care of it. I haven't been over to Lone Star yet, but if you put one over there as well, we could take care of that one as well. Just let us know.

Talking Slimdog, beware!

Hmmmmm. Wonder what "someone" could put into them bins to "attract" bee's.

Already pulled out 3 of the half size cans at PV. I seem to pull out more trash these days, but many people are putting fishing line in them as well.
