Just returned from our annual late summer fishing trip to Lake of the Woods in the Sioux Narrows Area + 45NM.

Trip Summary: Water Temp Whitefish Bay 76-79.F. Yellow Girl to North Basin 78-81F. Water Clarity, Some Bloom in Whitefish, very litte in the North Basin. Fishing was excellent for Walleye and Smallmouth Bass with limits daily on mid-sized musky lures trolled 10-15' feet deep. Excellent Northern Action with multiple fish over 36" on Suicks and Grandma's worked in the normal musky areas. Very few Musky's seen or caught due to water temps. Everything is suspended between 10-15' feet deep. This is our 10th Year. By far the most challenging.....

If you go, five men searched for six days with our entire arsenal of musky lures--basically everything available. Even worked live suckers for a few days with only a few big northerns to show for our efforts. The only pattern we could develop was you needed to throw "Wood" (I.e., Suick, Bobby Baits, Grandmas, big Rapalas) or you could not raise anything. Nothing on the normal surface baits, Spinners, or Cowgirls. Soft Plastics did not trigger any bites either. Fished all Day and Most Evenings until 11PM.

It still was an excellent trip with full limits of fish cleaned and brought home for our late summer fish frys. We figured it was just the luck of the draw on the weather. I will report back in the Fall when I return after our Vermillion Trip in Late September.
