I just got an email from Loren Murray up at Valentine saying Merritt is still under a burn ban, so I would like to make sure I know where I can have a campfire. Does anyone else know how much more moisture we would need in order for the Cherry County burn ban to be taken out?

EARLY Monday morning we took the detour route from Oliver Reservoir ( ON THE ROAD TO... part 1 ) and the Highway resurfacing- to Bushnell, Nebraska. The paved county road North of town soon "petered out" and we were immediately introduced to the different weather in the Panhandle from our Central Nebraska home!

The temps back home on Sunday were to reach 88 degrees. So, this was a surprise:

HAD to stop for a bit of "wintery fun"!

HEY, You could put an EYE OUT!

But it didn't take long as we headed back east "country road" style, and found THESE in the lowly hills:

A couple miles later a Buck-a-lope was wandering the hills all alone! You'll have to "picture it" yourself! Ha!

FINALLY, a HARD SURFACE and North to...

You MAY have to clic the yellow bar above the pic to read this- unless you are RICH like Redefining Fate and have a 26" monitor!

BEEEEUUUTIMUS AREA!!

I'll just "shut down the noise" for a bit and let you ENJOY THE VIEW:

Hope you all enjoyed that "serene" pause!

Now, this beautiful shelter also provided for an "exciting" discovery.

Well, "exciting" may not be the accurate verb! The "find" was more like an "OMG!" Or maybe even"Holy CRAP!" moment!

As a Trained Poopologist, it was an easily identified SCAT from a resident MOUNTAIN LOIN!

Of course, I always have my poop ID with me... (there always seems to be a lot of (crap) where ever I go! :eusa_whistle: ) ...and using my Mister Peabody detective kit (link provided for you "young whippersnappers" that missed out on GREAT cartoons!) the scat was determined to be from #DB09007WCH, the seventh cat released by someone with the initials "DB" into the Wildcat Hills, back in 2009.

Mrs. H-F-E was "on the lookout" as I performed the "pooptopsy", and once identified we made a quick "Exit, Stage RIGHT!" to the truck and "outa there"!!

Next stop on the Adventure was to:

Anyone can take a pic from the FRONT! Ours is from the "back side"...

...where we witnessed a couple TUNNELS!

I do NOT remember them when we climbed the hill way back in the '60's!

A "Flat-Rocker" at the time, I remembered the Bluff as being an "oversized" Sioux Lookout! Ha!

Other formations also stood out in the area:

And this one, not to be confused as the Bayard Area's "world renowned" Chimney Rock- which, of course, we viewed on our way home. Sorry, no pick of that one. Wanna pic? Look on the back of your Nebraska Quarter!!!
