Hawk fan says bathroom sex scandal "ruined my life"

STACI HUPP SHUPP@DMREG.COM NOVEMBER 26, 2008

A Carroll woman who was caught having sex in the men's room at an Iowa Hawkeye football game in Minneapolis last weekend says she’d had so much wine before kickoff that she doesn’t remember walking into the restroom, the man she had sex with in a stall, or when the police opened the door.

What Lois Feldman, 38, will remember is the humiliation afterward.

“It’s ruined my life,” she said through tears today. “Not just the incident but the press.”

Feldman, a married mother of three, has been the target of Internet jokes and prank telephone calls today. She was fired this morning from an assisted living center, where she had been an administrator.

Feldman said her husband, Kelly, has been supportive. She said he faults himself for not going with her when she left her seat to use the restroom before halftime.

“I don’t know what happened,” Lois Feldman said. “But I don’t deny that it did happen because obviously there are police reports.”

Police ticketed Feldman, 38, and Ross Walsh, 26, of Linden for indecent conduct Saturday night.

A security guard who said he saw the two having sex through a gap in a men’s restroom stall flagged down campus police, according to the police report.

By the time an officer arrived, about a dozen people were cheering and laughing in the bathroom while Feldman and Walsh were inside the stall, the report said.

The officer pushed his way through the crowd, opened the door and separated Feldman and Walsh, the report said.

Police described both Feldman and Walsh as upset, drunk and uncooperative.

Chuck Miner, deputy chief of the University of Minnesota police department, said officers tracked down Feldman’s husband.

“I’m not sure how they made contact with her husband, but they needed her husband to help identify her” because she’d given the wrong middle name.

Miner said police didn’t measure the blood-alcohol level of Feldman or Walsh. Asked to respond to Feldman’s claim that she was too drunk to recall the incident, Miner said: “That’s probably an accurate statement.”

Feldman said she’d never met Walsh.

“I don’t know who this man is,” she said today. “I just found out his name in the paper last night.”

Walsh wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Carroll, Feldman’s hometown, is about 60 miles northwest of Linden, where Walsh lives.

Feldman, who describes herself as a light drinker, drank wine at the home of family friends before the football game.

She said she doesn’t remember how much she drank, but the party’s hosts refilled her glass each time it was low “so I’m sure I drank a lot.”

Feldman said her husband later told her he’d tried to talk her out of the game because she was intoxicated.

“He said I didn’t realize it was that bad,” she said.

Feldman said her husband accompanied her to the game, but their friends stayed home.

She said she remembers sitting in the stands one moment and the next “being slammed around by a cop and screaming.”

“Apparently I was panicked and very uncooperative,” she said.

Feldman said she “ran away” from her husband the Metrodome after the incident.

She said a woman she didn’t know offered her a ride home about 11 p.m.
Feldman said she gave her husband’s cell phone number to the woman, who called Kelly Feldman for directions to the couple’s hotel.

Lois Feldman said her attorney has encouraged her to fight the ticket.

“He feels I was taken advantage of in my state of mind,” she said. “This is not me. We’re a very good family. This shouldn’t happen.”

Miner, the campus police officer, said fighting the indecent conduct charge could be a long shot.

“It’s spelled out in the law in Minnesota that intoxication is not a defense to any crime,” he said.

I haven’t been everywhere, that’s for sure. I’ve been to Norman, Stillwater, Austin, College Station, the Hilltop, TCU, Boulder, Eugene, U-Dub, Lubbock, Blacksburg and four BCS title games.

Notwithstanding my favorite day of the year in October at the Cotton Bowl, Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend was hands down the best game day experience and fans I’ve ever been part of. That place and those fans are TERRIFIC. If you’re an alum of a Big XII school, or anybody else that plays Nebraska, you have to go.

First of all, OU-Nebraska is a very different kind of rivalry. It helps as a fan on the road that your hosts LOVE your school, history and program. The ‘Husker faithful clearly believe that the football programs at Oklahoma and Nebraska are inextricably linked. They’re linked by their history, by all the Big 8 championships won the week before or of Thanksgiving in Norman and Lincoln and the Odd Couple relationship of Osborne and Switzer.

I’m fortunate that my work responsibilities include the Nebraska market, so I had the advantage of having guys I know and like looking after me. Combined with a good friend here in Big D who grew up in Lincoln and I got the Chamber of Commerce treatment from the home folks. But, given the experience I had, I doubt any Sooner who showed up in Lincoln yesterday had any different than the fantastic treatment I experienced.

So, the day…..

Drove down from Omaha, a fun town in its own rite. First stop, Barry’s. The irony of a Lincoln game day icon being called Barry’s put an instant smile on my face. Go in, get the beers rolling and we’re off. Kinda hungry though, so I ask the waitress for a menu. Do you remember the diner scene in “My Cousin Vinny?” When Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei sit down at the counter and the menu says “Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner.” So, she brings the “menu.” It reads “Hamburger. Chicken sandwich. Hot dog.” Oh, there are a few other things, but it was pretty funny. Typical campus-side beer bar.

Next stop was the unique one. Three or four blocks from the stadium there’s a place call Sidetracks. Any fellow Dallasites over 40 will remember a famous joint from the ‘70s and ‘80s called Bowley and Wilson’s. This place has been there for a couple generations, I gather, and is a local institution. It’s owned by a lady that’s about 65-70 years old. She’s the one on the piano on the stage. She the center of a band singing irreverent derivations of famous songs, along with some Nebraska school songs, etc… The biggest smile I got was the rendition of “Keep away from Ndomakong (sp?) Suh” to Runaround Sue. Good stuff. But two things happened there that you’d almost never get anywhere else. A BIG Husker dude taps me on the chest and says “Everyone being good to you?” You’ll never get that in Boulder or outside the Cotton Bowl. Then the lady that owns the joint welcomed all the Sooners and said, pointing to the projection screen on the wall, “When Oklahoma is playing on this screen, we root for Oklahoma! Unless it’s against Nebraska” That is exactly what’s unique about the Oklahoma-Nebraska rivalry. It’s a love fest. Back to Sidetracks. More funny tunes, $7.50 pitchers, the NU Alumni band coming through and two hours later, time to head to the tailgates. Every person we walked past offered a beer, food, an invitation to join. We ended up at our appointed spot, and the couple that was hosting it made us feels like we were guests in their home. “Get a drink, have some food, what’cha think of Lincoln, come back after the game.” They couldn’t have been nicer.

In to the game. We were in a Nebraska section. Everyone welcomed us, was very cool and I can tell you there is absolutely no trash talking at all. Very refreshing because I think trash talk is the BANE of the sports world today. The game sucked, of course, to a Sooner diehard.

At halftime, they hosted an on field meeting of Sooner and ‘Husker legends. The ‘Husker fans cheered every former Sooner on the field. Owens, Sims, White, Bradford, Greg Pruitt, Tom Berhany and Joe C. Then, LOUD applause and a standing ovation for Barry Switzer. I know enough Nebraska folks to know that Switzer is an icon in Nebraska. They love the guy. I think he represents the rebel that none of them are but kind of like to watch vicariously. Really cool.

Afterward, with a win in hand, do you think any ‘Husker fan’s behavior toward the vanquished changed? Nope. No trash talk. No “in your face.” No crap at all. The bars were packed and everyone was cool as hell to us. The only negative was trying to snare a cab at 1AM (bars close at 1).Total, total, I would advise any fan to go do the Lincoln thing. It was truly great. Those people are fantastic and I will definitely go back. Hopefully with a better team.

Alright, I think Saturday's gonna be an interesting day of football and we'll see some upsets.

1. I think Okie State is gonna beat Texas. This would make my day.
2. Oregon will likely beat USC. This would make my day as well.
3. Tennesee will beat SC, although thats not really a major upset.
4. I actually think the Florida vs Georgia game is gonna be a nail biter. Florida will probably win, but its gonna come down to wire. I'd also be a very happy man if Georgia won.

Northwestern has a chance to beat Penn State. Don't really care either way though.

I'd love to see Syracuse beat Cincinatti, but thats probably unlikely

Mississippi State and Kentucky is gonna be a good game as well even though neither team is ranked. I think Miss St could have a good team if their coach didn't start making dumb decisions and risky plays before they're really in a desperate situation. They had a chance to beat Florida, but that fake punt from inside their 20 was reckless and gave Florida the momentum to seal the deal.

I'll be at the game, cheering with an old college buddy. I say we finally start to execute on offense and beat them by a good 25 or 30 points. Lord knows the defense is doing its fair share... :eusa_pray:

I also hope to see us create some turnovers this week!!
