Geocaching is an outdoor sport that involves the use of a Global Positioning System "GPS" receiver to find a "geocache" or "cache" placed anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small, waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure". Geocaching is a unique take on an earlier game called Letterboxing in that it uses two recent technologies, the GPS and the Internet. Participants are called geocachers.

hmmm! Sounds cool, what is contained in these little treasure boxes? logbooks of what? treasures of what kind! ! !

In the cache there is many items from just small toys to headlamps and that type of stuff. In teh logbooks you write your geocaching name whihc mine is featherbender. YOu write what day it was you visited it and you can write a short summary of your find. There is an official website that you register on and log your finds on there too. that is also where you get hte coordinates for the cache. The website is geocaching website
Any more questions feel free to ask.

Can any of these techniques be applied to the problem we have every morning at our house -- helping my wife find her car keys? :d

Would think it'd be somewhat easy...

1. Go to Terraserver.com
2. Punch in GPS coordinates to get to the general area
3. Drive to said area, take handheld unit...locate 'X'
4. Search in the immediate vicinity
5. Find desired object...

Now, if only folks would GPS and SHARE morel sites :d

Its not as easy as you might think. The cache wich ranges from ammo cans to even film canisters spray painted in black green and brown then coverd up with leaves twigs grass branches then put under a cedar is not an easy object to spot.

Man if those treasure were gold I would be rich!!

So how does geocaching work if you're too poor to buy a GPS unit?

put it in terms of cases of beer, boxes of shotgun shells, cartons of cigarettes...might be more affordable than you think...

or, my favorite: gas money to drive to the in-laws...
