Thinking to buy used F150 (2000 or 2001....) and planning to look around very soon.....anyone recommend any good ford dealership around? My friend says none can beat one at Blar (sp?) north of Omaha.
Thanks for your input.

I got mine at Woodhouse and am assuming that's where you are talking about, they have an enormous selection. Be sure get what you want and low-ball them on the price. Their sticker price is not their rock bottom price. Do not be afraid to walk away, they will come after you with a better deal.

Good Luck

I had nothing but trouble dealing with Anderson Ford of Omaha, so I would discourage them. During my search I didn't visit Woodhouse in Blair, but I called them several times and they were very helpful over the phone. Ended up not buying a ford, but Woodhouse would have gotten my business. Especially used, they seem to be the best place.

Ah Sam, was wonderin when we were going to hear from you again. Woodhouse Ford is a good place to go, stay away from Andersen Ford on HWY 50, formerly known as Schier...I've only dealt with those two places when it came to a ford. Andersen (A.K.A. Schier) as soon as we walked up to the door, they didn't even show us a vehicle just asked what we would like to spend, we told them and they said that nothing on their lot was in our range and closed the door and walked away. I said a few choice words to them and left. Woodhouse took us around got us drinks, tried to negotiate with us to the point of where we both didn't want to go. Ended up not buying from them, but the guy there was very gracious and pleasant to haggle with. Ended up buying my GMC somewhere else.

Thanks, guys

Yes, Woodhouse is the one my friend told me. A bit dissapointed as I check their price on internet and much higher than expected......but make sence that they post much higher price. I may give a call to them and see what they have to say....if like then I may drive there.

Thanks!
Sam

Sam,
Woodhouse wants your business. Make them an offer your'e comfortable with and stick with it. They will usually meet your price as long as it's not ridiculous. Once you find a vehicle your'e interested in, get a price "set" in your head that you will spend. Tell them this is my price. If they say they can't lower it that much........say Thanks and start walking away. You'd be surprised how low they will go to make a sale. Might not hurt to wait another 2 weeks and go right at the end of the month when they're trying to meet their goals.

Here is a question.

Most dealers so far had price well above bluebook value. And when I asked, they come down to the bluebook price level right away.....and says, gee this is a huge drop off and I made such a deal..... ....but a fact is...NO!!

I usually look at trade-in value which is much much lower than retail value on Bluebook.....but my assumption is that trade-in value is somewhat close to what they spend to obtain cars/trucks. Of course they install new tires and etc etc as they claim.....would it be ridiculous to ask for price $500~$1000 above trade-in value?

They may not make so much profit....but I at least assist them to get rid of car and open a space for another car for them to sell

Geeeee.....I must be a jerk:zrazzing:

How do you guys decide the price you would pay? based on what value? Loan value?

Sam

My experience says you should be able to get close to "Private Party" value, but I have gotten some much closer to Trade-In value, but it needs to be the right car, they still want to make a profit, and they usually dont even give trade-in value for cars if they dont have to.

Just my thoughts,

-Bill

Sam,

I don't think it's crazy to offer $500 - $1,000 above trade in value. In fact, it sounds like a good idea.

Oftentimes, dealers may not have even paid trade in value for the vehicle in question, depending on a number of factors --the biggest of which being what the person who traded the car paid for the new car they bought!

Alex's advice of setting a price and not budging is right on. Granted, you may have to work a lot harder and a lot longer to get into your Ford, but you will not regret that you paid too much.

Welcome back. Hey, how many flatheads over 20 pounds did you catch this year?

I wouldn't hesitate to offer $500 over trade-in if I felt comfortable with that. They wanna sell vehicles, period. If they only make $500 from one,it's still making them money and they'll make it up on another sale. The hardest part is sticking with a set price in your head and not going over that. It's their job to try and get as much from you as possible.Get a set price that you feel is fair for the vehicle your'e buying and stick with that price, don't budge.Walk away if neceassary. There will be more vehicles at the next lot. They wanna sell it to you right then too.If you find something you like, tell them your'e gonna go to lunch, think about it,and possibly be back. While your'e gone, call the bank and find out the value and come up with that set price.Go back, walk up and say I'll give you "blank" amount for it.If they come back with a new and lower price than before say.."Thanks for the time but I just told you what I'll pay for it." Start to walk away and see if they come back with....Well,what a minute. Tell them that you'll pay your set price and that's it and they got 2 minutes to say yes/no to the deal. Ya kinda gotta be a jerk to them sometimes.

Thanks guys for great advise!! I am telling you....it is not fun buying a car. I start looking into passenger car as well as trucks but in either way, it is amazing to listen all those sales talk of why I need to pay more. One was very agressive and instead of giving me offer, he gets mad at me.....and telling me not to waste his time....not kidding at all. Maybe he was having a bad day or something but....sure I would not go back there again.
At the end, they slowly come down with their price AFTER I left dealership by ringing my cell phone every seconds:zbugs: Sure I got call from Mr.sales person with such a busy schedule to see if I came close to his offer...amazing!!
Anyway, I will do the same tomorrow with other dealers, give them my offer and see what they says.

Bo,

Not so many of large flathead, but numerous small ones 15-30 inches this year. I have no way figure out any pattern, it is very complicated, but it makes me feel more fired up to go after them. I have not been out there for a while because I was out of town a lot lately....but sure I will go out there again to do some more fishing (perhaps not for flathead but rather walleyes, blues....or carp????)
Geeee...I would rather go out fishing now days...

I just received a card in the mail from Ford regarding new F150's, they are offering a $9000 rebate. I would guess on a 9 grand rebate, you could buy a new one cheaper than used.

As far as your question about a good dealership, I don't think you can use those two words in the same sentence.

Sam , that's when you ask to speak to "the big cheese" so to speak and if that is "the big cheese" , tell him right where he can go along with a few choice words like "word travels far" an etc ...

Most of those dealers don't pay trade in for the vehicles. They pay well below that at the auto auctions, in most cases. Ask any dealer and they will tell you they make more profit on used vehicles than new.

Thanks guys,

May have to switch to passenger vehicle than truck.....because...

1. My fiancee think me being in truck looks like monkey in big steam engine:znono:

2. I saw a brand new fully loaded F-150 at the dealership....cool!!

Anyway, current talk with me fiancee is for me to drive whatever the vehicle I buy for a year and give it to her next year and buy a new one at the end of year for me to drive8) She does not drive truck so if I buy used truck now.....she will be ended up with brand new car next year after wedding....that is....No No

I rather have newer truck than used and that is what may happen...

I am planning to go Omaha area dealer soon....hope I find some good deal.

Trust me I know how much fun dealing with a stealership is. My GF just got a new car, took me 4.5 hours after work one day to get them to come down from 15,000 to 11,900 for a fully loaded "sport sedan" as they call it. All the while trying to get her trade up from 1800 (she owed 2100 on it still, it had hail and water damage) but finally got them to agree to 3000...so we ended up getting her car for 10,700 after everything was done. They want your business you just have to be as stubborn as they are.

BTW after my haggling ordeal, her dad came up to me and started calling me the son he never had. :d
