Default Good Man Gone

Conservation Officer Eric Wiebe passed away this morning after a two-year battle with cancer. Eric was a CO in Northeast Nebraska and was known and loved by many, many people.

That really is some bad news. My prayers are with him and his family.
I only had met him once. We were icefishing up at Buckskin last winter the day after new years. He came out to see how we were doing and talked for 10 minutes or so and then asked to see our licenses. About that time I realized where mine was at, on the desk in the office where earlier that day I bought online and printed it off. I told him thats where it was and he said, well meet me at the truck after I see these people over here. I thought how could I be so stupid.

Well I reeled up and headed for his truck. He got back wrote me a warning. I bet we ended up talking bout ice fishing for 45 minutes. Very nice guy and knew alot about the area lakes. We talked about Powder Creek and asked if I ever fished it. I said yea, a few times. He then said well I havent been there yet today with a big smile on his face, as if he knew maybe I would head over there.

He will be missed.

Sorry to hear it. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family.

I had only met Eric a couple of times, but he seemed like a good man who cared about his job and the resources he was tasked to protect.

RIP Officer Wiebe

A game warden friend of mine spoke to him recently to say goodbye, and had nothing but super positive things to say about him. Sounds like he was a sort of mentor to a lot of game wardens when they were starting out and learning the ropes. Very supportive, great advice, etc.
