Default Breaking News: 7 Dead at Ft. Hood, TX

Supposedly, two gunmen have killed seven and wounded up to 30 others at Ft. Hood today. I have a buddy who is transitioning back from his 2nd tour in Iraq, and could possibly be on that base right now. I'm scared, as I'm sure anyone with friends or family at Ft. Hood would be.

Please say a prayer for my friend's safe return, and for the families of the ones who have been involved.

Multiple shooters sounds like a terrorist cell that went undetected.

Prayers sent.

Just updated: 12 dead, 31 injured. One gunman dead. He was a soldier. One other soldier in custody, and another, possibly, still on the loose.

I am hearing sketchy reports that the dead gunman/soldier was a recent convert to Islam.

Still no report on whether my buddy was involved in any way. The news says that no Nebraska or Iowa soldiers are among the dead or wounded, but my friend is an officer assigned to a Wisconsin reserve unit, so he may not show up as a local guy.

I'm still fearing for his safety and won't feel better until I lay eyes on him Monday.

pickett, i hope your buddy is safe. another sad thing about this is there have been other frags in the past few years. with the the stress that's put on our military, history shows this happens...especially with combat veterans. war alters the mind. i have no mercy for this guy but i think his ethnicity will be a big deal in the media. he was a major in the army, a high ranking officer. i wonder if he had an agenda or he just lost it. either way, this is sickening. my heart goes out to the families who have probably had their fair share of suffering already.

He just lost it. This guy has been fighting his deployment to go overseas of quite some time, he was not a combat veteran but a military psychiatrist. He had been very vocal about what the military was doing in Iraq and Afghanistan was wrong.

Default All is well...

I finally broke down and called my buddy's cell phone, and........HE ANSWERED!!!

He has just boarded a bus, in route back to Nebraska from Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Said his wife had mailed him his cell phone in Iraq a couple of weeks ago, and he had just turned it on a few minutes before I called.

I guess his family was worried sick last night until they heard from him. Seems there was a lot of confusion over "Ft. Hood" vs. "Ft. Leonard Wood". They really do sound alike and fear and doubt set in quickly as the news broke yesterday.

Thanks to all who sent prayers and positive vibes his way. Thank God he is alive and well. My heart goes out to the families who won't be getting their soldiers back after yesterday's tragedy. Damn shame heroes had to fall in that manner.
