Default This is crazy

I own a Marketing business in Lincoln. I just this morning finished an audit by the state unemployment dept. We were audited due to a 1099 misc from 2007. A 1099 form is if I hire a person for a service, but they are not employed. the amount was for $750.00, they didnt have proof that this person was an actual service provider so I was audited because they wanted to make sure that I shouldnt have paid unemployment tax on that person as an employee.
So we have $750.00 at a tax rate of 1.26%, so the amount I was audited over was a total of $8.82, which by the way, I didnt owe because everything was legit. But seriously! perform an audit over 8 bucks? that is crazy.

Well, they've got to keep all those state employees "busy" somehow

Throw crap on the wall, see what sticks seems to be their philosophy...

Hopefully the upcoming Ne budget cut will take care of frivolous $8.00 audits.

That's ridiculous... I have a similar story that is still unfolding.

I claim residency to Ohio because (A) I plan to move back there some day and (B) they don't require me to pay taxes. I still have to file, but I just tell them 100% of my income was military wages and I owe nothing. Well, the city I grew up in does the same thing. I have to file but no taxes. This year I forgot to do that....Actually I just blew them off. So my dad got a letter in the mail yesterday saying I have 30 days to (A) "pay" my city income tax (which if I wasn't exempt would still only be $60) or (B) Come up with proof of non residency or I will be arrested. I'm thinking about just not filing still. I wonder if they'd actually come find me... And I wonder if they'd actually make me sit in jail for Municipal Tax Evasion of $0.00

yes, it was a waste of my time, but the big waste is your tax dollars paying for audits to possibly collect 8 bucks
