Huh, Seriously?

It really bothers me that my two personal doctors (I go to a clinic with two different doctors and see whichever one gets to me first) both made it very clear that they would never get this vaccine or let their wife and kids get it either. They didn't go into detail as they were really busy that day with a whole waiting room full of H1N1, but I have no reason to think they have any agenda in the matter. I'm still amazed that I haven't caught this yet as much as I've been around people with it, but I don't wanna count my chickens just yet.

from a study:

"study by the CDC found that when one member of a family contracted the H1N1 virus, other members of the family were infected only 10% of the time -- a very low communicability."

In my experience, this stuff spreads like wild fire. Like I said on the first page, I had a small party at my place a little over a month ago where EVERYONE of the people at my place got this stuff with/ in 2 days. Over half of them were told it was H1N1 after seeing the doctor, myself included. Part of me is actually happy that I got it so I no longer have to worry about getting it again. I just hate the flu period, and this stuff was all in the lungs, so being a smoker it really kinda sucked! My g/f has asthma so I was actually a lot more worried for her. She didn't sleep much the first 4-5 days and I was praying that she wasn't getting the viral pneumonia. Thank god we weathered the storm.

Another buddy of mine, is still fighting on a ventilator with viral pneumonia in both lungs and other complications from H1N1. It will be a long couple months for him, with the best out come. He has been in a medically induced coma for the last 2 weeks. Scary stuff. We are praying and also ask for yours as well.

Saying this, I have read that it effects my generation a lot worse. I really don't know many "older" people that have came down with it like my group of friends. I would tend to agree, with my experience, that the younger generation is effected more.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. It does seem like it affects some people terribly. I just found out an old friend of mine just got out of the hospital after being in an induced coma for a few weeks for the same reason. Some of these stories got me rethinking the severity of the disease, but most people I know were fine in a few days.

As far as the communicability, the families I know that it has affected, it has spread to the entire household. My neighbor's entire family had it Mom, Dad, and three kids. They were through with it in about a week though with no hospital visits. The co-workers of mine that have had it, its affected their entire household as well. I wonder what causes it to get so severe in some people though because it seems like were seeing quite a few people in the hospital with some very serious pneumonia.

thats the tough part on the numbers, did you specifically get tested for H1N1 or was it based on "symptoms"? the sypmtoms are the same as the regular flu, this is where the numbers could be wrong, they are saying a very large portion of the people being told they have H1N1, actually dont, because there was never an test conducted for it, instead they simply have the seasonal flu.
Not saying you didnt have it, or everyone at your party but, but as stated before, it cant be determined without an actual H1N1 test which most doctors are not doing, they are classifying nearly all "flu like" symptoms as the H1N1.

Yeah, everyone else I know has been over it within 7-10 days with no hospital visits. It is really crazy how it effects some people really bad. My friend at Creighton was as healthy as an ox as well. Big outdoorsman and very active. From what his parents tell us, the last couple days have been a lot better than the first 7-10. Baby steps in the right direction but far from out of the woods. Time will tell.

The doc told me that the seasonal flu has not been really prevelant in Lincoln, so he said H1N1. Said that H1N1 effects the lungs more, and this was for sure the case with me and the g/f.

Only one guy at the party actually received the H1N1 test, and was just told over the phone that he did test positive, but that it was like pulling teeth to get the test as the doctor didn't see a point because it had been over 2 days since contracting it so there wasn't a whole lot a positive test could do. According to him, he had a positive test for the H1N1. I would assume that beings he had it, everyone else with the same symptoms had it as well.

So I wake up this morning a little more tired than usual. I do some quick figuring in my head, I don't remember seeing Conan, must have fell asleep before 10:30, it's now 6:30, ok, at least 8 hours of sleep. Must have been the end of daylight savings time that screwed up my sleep or the waking up at 4:30 freezing. (which may be because the heat is not on)
About 9 am i'm sitting in my office, not really doing much, when it felt like someone pulled the plug on what little energy and ambition I had this morning. A little while later the chills start. The chills are always a bad sign for me. As the morning progressed the sinus headache started, soon followed by a little queasy feeling in my stomach.

Now I sit here wondering, do I have the flu, is it the dreaded H1N1 or have I spent too much time reading this thread?

see, those "symptoms" are the same as the standard flu, and without actual testing, many "regular" flu cases are being classified as H1N1, by nothing more than flu symptoms, this is where the numbers are highly skewed.

Hmmmm.......

New York Businesses Get H1N1 Vaccine - BusinessWeek

Goldman Sachs Received H1N1 Vaccine Before Several Hospitals

Wall Street Banks Getting Swine Flu Vaccine Before Many High-Risk Groups (VIDEO)

Quote:
While thousands of at-risk Americans wait, some big Wall Street banks have already secured the hard-to-find H1N1 vaccine for their employees.

Building on a story that BusinessWeek broke, NBC reports that employees at the New York Stock Exchange, bankers at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and employees at the Federal Reserve have all received swine flu vaccine doses to administer to their employees.

In particular, NBC reports that Goldman Sachs has received 200 doses of the vaccine -- the same amount as Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Wall Street banks, like many other companies, put in requests for the vaccine but seem to have had something of a leg up on securing doses.

I also read somewhere that a Pro Hockey team got the shot before everyone else did.

Default uh????

what exactly did she say in the last third of this video? did hear that correctly? If my ears are working correctly, she said that it's best to create the thought of a vaccine shortage, to get people to want to line up in chance of getting it. Then she said they actually have twice the amount needed to vaccinate the population?

So there is gonna be a clinic at Burke High School next week.My daughter goes to Burke and the students(maybe staff too, don't know) are given the chance to get the vaccine(during school hours) before the doors open to the public at 4:30.Is that a perk for hosting the clinic??

Probably a good attempt at getting the high-risk population vaccinated before the general public. By high-risk I mean pregnant teenagers. Isn't Burke full of those?

Your first question should be, Who is the CFR? and why should we care what they have to say?

Making it seem that there is a shortage, whether real or percieved is just a marketing ploy. How does she have the knowledge of how much vaccine there is?

Disclaimer..... I spent more time looking in to the CFR than I did watching the video. A few people with a camera and a youtube account doesn't make their opinion important.
