Default Putting my best friend down:(

Just made the call that I have not been wanting to make. I have to put my 11 year old huskie to sleep on Friday. He is where I get my screen name from. HALEN. He is MY first dog that I got after moving out of my parents home. We have been fighting issues for about 4 months. We have tried everything but he has cancer on his bladder and they are afraid in several other places. I could put him through the surgery and try to fix him but he could not make it through the surgery. With his age and current health I have to make the decision to put him down. I dont want to and I am crying as I write this and I am sure tomorrow will be harder but I know I am doing the right thing for my dog. I am going to take him for a nice long (pretty short for him) walk and play at the lake tonight to kind of say our goodbyes......Before I was married and kids my camping buddy was Halen. I need to do it one more time before the end. I wish pets lived longer. This is the 2nd dog I have lost in less than 2 years. Never thought I could love them like I do I guess. Anyway I am rambling now and I have work to do. Thanks for letting me vent.
Chris

I still cry thinking about my lab, Zoey, and the day I had to put him down...and am already tearing up...and that was 5 or 6 years ago. Old dog suffering from diabetes and blindness associated with it. I was thankful that I could be there that day with him when he died

I now have a psychotic beagle that I love, but has never replaced Zoey.

Really sorry to hear this. I can't imagine what this is gonna feel like, because my dog is in good health right now, but I almost tear up at the thought of ever having to put her down.

I hear you Halen, my german short hair named "Shorty" is now 13-1/2 years old and has lumps showing up everywhere. It probably won't be long before I will be faced with a similar decision. Really sorry to hear this, cherish the memories you have made with Halen.

I'm sorry to hear this too. Losing pets is a very difficult thing, especially if you are a good owner as they become a part of the family.

Sorry to hear that, I just went thru the same with my Husky mix. I wish I had put him down the night before he passed. He also had cancer and vet believed it was with the spleen. He bleed out before morning and I don't think I'll ever get the image out of my head thet was there in the morning. He was gooing to 13 in Jan. All you can do is know he is better now and remember all the good times and not the bad.
Mako,is it possible to have a section just for this issue. The current passing and even past love ones where we can just vent & share sometimes? It really does help with the loss, trust me.
One last photo.

I couldn't agree more. Dogs are probably the most loyal friend a guy could have. Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw a while back that gave me a chuckle. "Dogs are family. Would you chain your Grandma outside?"

Very tough but it's the best thing... He needs you to be there at the end as well! So make sure you stay by his side till the end. It's the best way to show respect to your best freind.

I still choke up thinking about when I lost Callie (My Lab) but I then think of all the good times we had and the pain goes away. It'll be hard but just know that you are indeed doing the right thing.
