According to my older two kids we must not have survived without cell phones! Does anyone else get aggrivated when your kids are always on the phone-texting,surfing the net,and the hundred other things these new "smartphones"can do. I guess I'm a dinosaur, technologically speaking anyway. And to keep this fishing related how can you do any serious fishing with a phone beeping, buzzing, and playing music and videos every ten seconds? I really hate to confiscate them as they pay the bills themselves,so that options kinda out. But man, them things push my buttons, when your trying to get something done and everyone wants to stop and look at their phone twice a minute.
So what do you think of todays phone technology? and what is your age? |

I am 24 and have a blackberry. I would be lost without it because for one I don't have a computer so I'd have no internet access. I also have a program on my phone that keeps a log on every single fish I catch which enables me to go back and compare notes. My sister is a dr and has a smartphone and she has the information of every single drug on there. I think smart phones are great

Age 50-Got a Blackberry(Don't really know how to use it except taking and sending calls.) My idea of texting is still writing notes out freehand. My daughter works for Viero so she gets a free phone. My two at home won't have one until...well...maybe they get a job at Viero.

Old enough to know how to use a rotary phone. I have a Palm Pre smartphone, too many reasons to list why I have one, but when your on the lake wondering about that black cloud, I'm checking the radar and or ordering a pizza to pick up on the way home.
Both my kids got cell phones as soon as they could pay the bill themselves. They can be annoying, but when I don't want to hear the phone ring, off it goes.

Cell phones, video games are this generations cocaine. Have you ever been driving along only to see someone from this generation pass you with a cigarette and the steering wheel in one hand while texting with the other, all the while doing 75mph? This generation can't even tell you what time it is unless they have their cell with them......

I'm forty and just got my first cell phone less than a year ago. I can't stand mine, but since I was paying for my wife and daughter's, I finally decided to get one and give up the land line.
However, I have to admit it is useful. Like when I need to call a Locksmith when I lock my truck at the boat ramp. And YES it does bother me when my daughter spends all of her time texting. EVEN when she is watching a moving. What is that all about? Then she'll be all grumpy for no reason. Apparently because of something someone said in a text. I give up. I don't understand this young generation, and I don't want to. (Of course now that I think about it, I can't stand my generation either)

I'm 27. I text maybe 10 msgs per day, and I talk maybe 30 minutes a day, and that's quite often to my Dad out west, best friends that live in San Antonio and Arizona, or my brother. But many days I don't even do that much. I have an iPod Touch that substitutes for a computer most of the time (it's like an iPhone without the phone - still has wireless internet capability). It's an extremely useful device, and was well worth the $229 I paid for it. If Alltel had iPhones, I would have had one by now - but AT&T Wireless has crap for coverage in Nebraska, so my next phone will be a Blackberry via Alltel/Verizon.
I got a cell phone my freshman year of college (Spring '01). At the time, I was only the 2nd person in my group of friends to have one (and I got it for the free nights/weekends to call my girlfriend who lived in Kearney). By the next school year (fall of '01) everyone had one. I have noticed most of my friends aren't particularly ADD about them though. Now people 3-4 years younger than me, that started texting when the phones were first purchased? That's another story. Especially the girls - I just don't get it. And I have a 6 year old daughter that has at least one friend in Kindergarten that has a cell phone.

I am 38. I wouldnt leave home without my cell phone. I text my wife, kids, friends, etc. etc. I text when I dont feel like calling and having an entire conversation. Just a couple little notes like "take out the garbage" "clean your room" etc. But then again, I am an I.T. guy here at work, and I've programmed the servers to send me texts with error messages, things like that.
Dont have a smart phone yet, but in September when its time for a new phone I will.

I'm 30, bought my first cell phone when I was 22 and still in college and of course had to pay for it myself. Back then the plans were a bit different. 300 anytime minutes, nights/weekends started at 8pm, had to pay extra for caller i.d. My phone didn't even have a vibrating battery - no texting, no internet - true story
. That plan ran me around $50 with tax.I still have one (an old razr) but don't use it much. My pet peeve is people who are addicted to their "crackberries". Half the time when my wife and I are out with our friends, most of them can't let go of the phone for more than a minute because of the constant texting and surfing the web. I was driving down I-680 to work a few weeks ago and some lady was swerving all over the road....of course, she was on her crackberry texting someone. I know when we have kids, they'll "expect" a cell phone. But, I'll pass down the family tradition....if you want it, you pay for it....no gray area either. When I'm fishing, the cell phone gets put away. I get enough emails and phone calls at work. I still know how to relax the old fashion way. ![]() |

And ignorance is bliss. I can't do without my phone now but hate having it, mainly because it makes me work from anywhere. Or if I'm out fishing, I can still be contacted by one of my Engineers or customers.

I agree, one thing that I have learned though, they are less of a curse when you turn the power off when your doing something important....like fishing.
BTW, Im 24 and use my phone regularly. I do have to say I like texting more than talking, I think it makes things shorter, and more to the point. |

I'm 31, and if I didn't have all the fun gadgets I have, I would go insane from not knowing what is going on all day. Plus I'm an uber computer nerd, so I have to have internet access wherever I am, just in case...

I'm 15 and have a baseline phone. It's a razor. No fancy plans, use it mostly for calling parents after baseball to come pick me up. I hardly talk or text on it.
My opinion is a phone can be good or bad depending upon how you use or abuse it.

Totally agree. I think it's awesome that we have the technology we do but at the same time people literally get addicted to their phones. I'm 18 and use my smartphone for pretty much everything. I would never get on a computer anymore if I wasn't a member of NEFGA.

31, just a reg old cell phone. If I can leave that at home I do. Had inlaws here a couple of weeks ago from Chicago and from age 5-40 they were on their phones surfing the net or texting the whole time. I wanted to ask them why they came. I'd rather not have anything, but that being said, I do...
