What you will need:
2. Take the cap off the 35mm film canister and insert pen. 3. Mark the top of the 35mm film canister on the pen. 4. Remove pen and tape down chenille just above the mark you just made on the pen. 5. Start wrapping the chenille just below the line on the pen. Wrap back and forth until all the chenille is on the pen, below the line. The key to making this work is the wrapping of the chenille. You want to keep some tension on the chenille but not too much, if to much is applied it will be tough to remove the pen later. Also note that the wraps must be side by side if there is any over lapping of wraps it will cause an issue later during usage of storage container. 6. Insert the pen with the wrapped chenille in to the 35mm film canister. 7.Remove the tape from the pen. 8.Hold the chenille in place with one hand and slowly remove the pen from the rapped chenille with the other. 9.Take the 35mm film canister cap and feed the tag end (the one you taped down) of the chenille in to the hole and place cap on to the canister. 10.Label and use. The chenille will unravel from the inside out. If the chenille will not pull out smoothly, redo steps 4-10 paying close attention to step 5. ![]()

You can have all the film canisters you want. Since working at Walgreen's this summer, I have more canisters coming out the wazoo than I know what to do with. How many do you want? Chenille sold separately!

question, I've been steaming mine before use, will being pulled through the top help with shaping them, or would the chenille still need to be steamed?

Steaming chenille is personal preference. I have never steamed any of my chenille, and probably never will. I would assume that storing chenille in film canisters would help the shape due to the fact that you can control the amount of pressure use in wrapping of the chenille, and the fact that the canisters are round can't hurt. Now as for pulling the chenille though the lid on the container, I try to make the holes slightly larger than the chenille, to avoid unnecessary removal of material from the chenille. Hope this helps.

Film canisters will become harder and harder to find with all the digital now. Those of you who have a bunch of them ought to hold onto them. Just a thought.

Met up with Skershaw at Wray's house, we BS'ed, tied some flies, swaped material, and ate some of Wray's tastey chili. Kershaw gave me a bunch of film canisters, and now I've got my chenille all organized, WOOT!!!!!
Big thanks to Wray for posting and to Kershaw for the canisters! ![]() ![]()

I was looking for something small and compact to help me sort all my lose hooks and weights in the tackle box came across this thread and these things worked really great. Went to my local Walgreen’s asked for some they looked at me funny
and just handed some over. Thanks for the great idea. |

Film canisters with a hole in the lid work well for dubbing also. Thanks FBW...
