Default Diving with Gar

Did some scuba diving at a little sandpit along I-29 across the river from Nebraska City today. Saw a HUGE largemouth bass and several smaller bass, lots of bluegill, and a few gar. The gar were really cool to see, swimming across in front of us. I'd never seen one while diving before.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Very cool to see fish in their element. I would imagine a scuba diver to them is so foreign they likely just gave you a funny look instead of get spooked.

This thread is worthless without pics.

Someday I'll own an underwater camera, and then I'll get pics.

Actually, the fish in lakes we dive a lot come right up to us, at least the bluegill do. If we take a baggie of frozen corn down with us, we can feed the 'gills. The bass are always spooky, although they'll swim along with us, just out of reach. The gar we saw swam across in front of us. They didn't seem too afraid, but they didn't really want anything to do with us, either.

It's the bubbles when we exhale that spooks the fish. Even when spearfishing, the walleye, which are VERY spooky, will check us out more closely if we control our breathing so as not to exhale the usual streams of bubbles.

CG, be sure to "blur out" the background!

"Your World" is simply amazing. Too bad I suck at breathing ABOVE the water line!
