NGPC news release, 7/2/09:
LINCOLN, Neb. – Snakes of Nebraska will be displayed and discussed at Dennis Ferraro's workshop July 18-19 at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Ferraro, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln county extension educator, will display 24 species of snakes and answer questions about the reptiles during the workshop from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Although mostly unseen in the wild, the colorful snakes play a big role in nature's cycles and are highly beneficial to humans. Attending this workshop is a fun way to learn about snake identification, their habitat and their value to people. As always, the aquarium is a great place to visit to learn about Nebraska's aquatic world, too. Admission to the aquarium is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children, but children age 5 and younger are admitted free. The Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium is located south of Gretna in Schramm Park State Recreation Area. For more information, call the aquarium at (402) 332-3901. A park entry permit is required for all vehicles entering the park.
