Default Best Park for Camping

Relatively new to public camping grounds and was wondering which one is preferred by regulars. We'd do the tent thing, no camper, and generally need enough room for 3 tents, 3 families. Would need to be in the Omaha area, preferable quiet, and with fishing opportunities. I was thinking Two Rivers or Fremont. Any other referrals?

Both of those are good choices. I've also seen both places get crowded too, but not "Louisville" crowded. Personally, I prefer two rivers, smaller campground, therefor less crowded. In overall fishing, I prefer Fremont because it has more water and more lakes. But the trains would drive me nuts.

Yes, both good choices. However, my pick would be Two-Rivers. The Staff has been VERY accomodating to this "outstater" and I look forward to a THIRD visit!

Next time, I'm gonna get me a Caboose! Is THAT cool, or WHAT?

Plenty of playgrounds for the kids, and swimming is available, too!

We usually hit up Wilson Island State Recreation Area a few times each year. The park is located on the Missouri River (there is a public boat ramp) right next to Desoto Bend. The park is actually located in Iowa, but you can fish the Desoto lake & Missouri River with either a Nebraska or Iowa license.

The park is usually pretty quiet (with the exception of the major holiday weekends) and there is plenty of shade for camping. In addition to fishing, there is plenty of hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Unlike Nebraska, Iowa does not require a park permit for entry into their state parks.

Thanks for the replies guys. Presently leaning towards Fremont because a couple of the people in our group are more familiar with it right now, but I like the sound of Two Rivers as well as Wilson Island (very attracted to the possibility of quiet).

I've never camped at Wilson's Island, but fished there a few times, and it seemed like it'd be a very nice place to camp!

I took the kids to Wilson Island Friday and it was really nice. The camper section was full but we were in a tent and there was no one near us. We saw lots of wildlife and the hiking trails were good, The only downside was the quarry across the river seemed to have a third shift working.

One other possibility, especially if the emphasis is strongly on fishing, would be Summit. The potties are primitive (but clean) and there are no showers, but the fishing is probably better than the previously named alternatives. An added benefit is the quiet -- unlike Fremont or Lousiville, no trains. And there's no shortage of room for group tenting.

Memphis is a nice quiet campground (primitive). I don't know how the fishing is though.

How far do you want to travel? 20 more miles would put you at Dead Timber plenty of tent camping areas .Fishing is slow but doable. There also is Maskatine by Stanton. In Wisner there city park has camping and it would have acess to the river to fish in.

Looks like we're going with Fremont tomorrow. A friend of ours says there's a really good spot she uses regularly and it'll be quiet in the middle of the week. And right on the water. What should we be fishing for? We're looking at the Lake # 16 tent area, sites 208-224 for reference.

A little bit of everything in #16... smaller cats, avg sized crappie, a few bass (been told some decent size have been caught there before). Also seen some big carp in there too.

The lake gets heavy shore pressure, so the action can be pretty slow at times.

Very slow. Saw the big carp, no catfish, and tons of small bluegill. Caught 3 small bluegill and would have had about 3 big carp if I had a bow and arrow. Nice and quiet (trains didn't bother me) though.
