Default Halsey swimming pool............

Apparently the pool at Halsey National Forest is closing for good since there was no money to be found to fix or replace the current facility. It's sad that they can't do something because I think having the pool really was a nice addition to that location especially during the summer when it gets boiling hot around there. Just thought I'd let everyone know that the pool won't be open if you make a trip up there later this summer.

Who runs the pool there? The Forest Service, or the 4-H camp?

Forest service. I find the Halsey location to be on a huge decline now. They plan on changing the group campround toilets from plumbed to pit toilets. The pond access has been about cut in half since they put up a fence to close off shore access to the eastern side. Which IMO is the best area to fish that pond. The fishing dock was removed partially so now the only thing remaining is the piers and a few boards. Why don't they have any funds? I guess the new administrative building they put up a few years ago on top of the tennis courts probably took all the money they had available to do upkeep on any of the public use areas of the park. My family has been camping at Halsey for over 25 years and its sad to see things going away that in my mind are big reasons why anyone would decide to camp there in the first place.

What a shame.

Since the only time I've ever been there is to the 4-H camp, are there fees for using Halsey? Does the Fed's "one pass" thing with National Parks cover you there, or is there some other permit required?

Or is the place the victim of Federal budget cuts?

FYI the pool has been removed and they aren't going to rebuild one at all. They also tore up ( or will be)the group site and the area will now cater to the 4-wheeler and motocross crowd from here forward. Kinda sad this happened as my family has used that group site for around 30 years over the 4th of July. It would be nice if the NGPC would build a decent group site on a few lakes around the state. Losing this gives groups like ours very few options.

There were fees for using the group site. I think this is due to budget cuts or possibly a new vision for that location.

The group campground is a great facility and is/was used by our camping club twice each year in the spring and fall. We have had to change our camping schedule for next year because of the construction work at the campground.

Out of curiosity, is there any other swimming pool closer to there than North Platte? Maybe one in a hotel in Thedford or someplace?
