I'm thinking about purchasing a trailer for my 12' jon boat. I'm getting a little tired of hoisting this thing on the top of my jeep every time I need to scratch my fishing itch...and I get quite itchy when it's nice out, or even when it's not nice out. :d
Anybody know roughly what it costs to register/license a typical jon boat trailer (only two wheels). Thanks, for your help! Deas |

Deas, I paid $900 for my boat and trailer, I got my hull stickers for 2 yrs and licensed the trailer for 1 yr and paid taxes on my boat and it was only $59 for all of that. It'll be dirt cheap.
My boat is a 14' Lund. I hope that gives you some idea. |

Yeah...I figured the trailer would be fairly cheap. Didn't cost a thing to register and title the boat. Thanks for the info!

Ethan,
My guess is that the biggest part of the expenses is going to be the sales tax on the trailer the first time you register it. Figure 20 or 30 bucks for the sales tax, plus the fees for the tags for the first year. JLK

My trailer came with my boat and I don't remember for sure what it cost to license the trailer, but as said before, it should be dirt cheap. Like James said, the sales tax on the trailer will probably be the biggest thing. But maybe not if you can find one for a couple hundred bucks. It would be a tiny trailer and wouldn't have to be all that great. Good tires and bearings and not too beat up and rusty would work fine.

Save up for a year for a little 6HP and you will have a really nice set up for the type of fishing we do, Ethan.
Not that you dont already. 8)

Yeah...I've been thinking about that. I was cruising the net the other day for prices on that type of motor. I just need to find something that is going to be light enough for my boat. My boat weighs about as much as an aluminum canoe.
I thought maybe a light 4hp Merc. would do the trick. I know, though, that once I'll purchase a gas outboard, I'll be spending big bucks every year getting it fixed. Deas PS: Bo, I think you should consider buying a new one for yours. As much as I love getting stranded on Elwood and BO...never mind, I'll leave this one alone. Maybe James will pick up where I left off, seems to me he got up close and personal with Elwood! :d :d . |

I think I got the problem with my motor figured out. I don't think it's a motor issue as much as it is a fuel delivery issue. One of these days I'll have to "git r' done" and fix the dang thing.

That's right...I forgot about that. Hopefully that works. You'll be able to cruise BO a heck of a lot quicker. Let me know when you get it fixed. I'll be there for your maiden voyage to make sure all is well. And to make sure I get that stupid Wiper that broke me off on my ultra light last time.

All I will say is that you guys haven’t thrown anything at me in the boating department that I haven’t seen before. (you both have heard the stories) As for Elwood, Yeah, I know that lake pretty well now... at least the muddier parts of it!

Everytime I think of that trip to Elwood, I remember James tossing out his crappie rigs/aberdeens with night crawlers and then just going to sleep in the front of the boat. He would only wake up to smoke and respond to the jabs we took at him. "Hey, we used to catch a lot of fish on these rigs, errr!"
Then we got towed back by Reelsnlures and you, Ethan, graced the whole lake with the loudest expleteve I have ever heard after we got blown into the mud. I have to give it up to James though, he stepped up and got that boat on the trailer. All the experience he has had with his dad sinking boats at Mac really paid off.

What’s wrong with waking up to have a smoke?

Yeah...I definitely lost my cool down there that day. I think if we had actually caught so much as a bluegill my reaction would have been much more tempered!
ops:James really took one for the team that evening. Come to think of it, he did the same thing on a min. maintenance Road one afternoon when we were hunting last year. I thought my jeep was going to roll him over. A good man to have around...and that's why I hang out with you, James...you do the crap I hate doing . |
