Default Boat Registration Question

Looking over the 2006 Nebraska Boating Guide, can not see where it says what to do with the paper registration. Do you keep it in the boat, or can you keep it in the vehicle you are using to tow the boat?

Thanks...Art

Default right or wrong

I always keep it in my tackle box in a water tight floating holder the size of a big lighter. In Missouri I had too.

You must keep it in the boat. I asked someone from the G&P (maybe Scott Eveland???) and was given that answer. While you can try the its in my car deal, they may or may not accept this, depending on the person. They are not going to want to follow you to shore, wait for you to get it, then go back to checking boats.

With that said, mine never left my car last year.

Seal it and tape it to the bottom of a seat.

Most boat shops have a small container that floats to put on your key, I just stuff it in there.

Sounds like I'll keep it in the boat. Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I overlooked it in the regulations...

I just re-read the manual and I didn't see it either. But I think you are on the right track.

My kid and I both took the class last weekend...in there it was clearly outlined 'you must keep the registration in the boat'...

all ambiguous documents aside, I believe the expectation by the inspecting parties, when/if occurs, will be for you to have it on you...just like you need to keep the current registration in your car...and get ticketed if you don't have it...

Page 4, second "bullet point" under reminders:

"Certificate of number/registration must be available on the vessel for law enforcement inspection at any time."

Regs/guides are never too easy to read, don't get me started on that subject...

So, yes, you must have your pink registration slip onboard for inspection, just like in your car. Glove box, ziplock under the seat, the little floaty keychains...all good ideas.

PS, we may finally have 2007 boat guides in April! Long story there, I won't bore you with the details as to why they are just a little behind...

Thanks Scott and everyone else. Scott...wish they would just combine the fishing and boat regs in the same book. Have seen some states do that before, one stop shopping...

You betcha' all!

Combining guides has been discussed, but remember, there are many boaters who don't fish, and vice versa...

Besides, they are both getting so big. I remember when either one would fit in your shirt pocket 15 years ago... Pretty soon we'll need three-ring binders!
