Default Boat Bilge Pump?

Here's the skinny, got an old boat, no bilge pump, but would like one in case of emergency. Any thoughts on something such as this: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...pump&noImage=0

That looks like a NICE pump for the money. Something small enough to stow out of the way, but efficiant enough to save your rear should you ever spring a bit of a leak. And, compared to $20 for the manual, larger pump, I'd say this is a no-brainer.

Pick up one for me, too :-) ! I get tired of wet shoes at the end of a fishin' trip.

Do you want one that small, only 200 gph ? The smallest I would go is 500 gph, just personal opinion.

IF you don't have a bilge pump, I would think a baling bucket would be standard equipment issue. G

I know OBG has one that he uses in his leaky waders.

200gph for up to 5 hours...it pumps 1000 gallons on 3 D batteries?! You have to buy it and see if it gets anywhere close to those stats. If so, I don't see why it wouldn't be sufficient unless your boat takes on a ridiculous amount of water. It's cheap enough it's worth trying out, although buying a set of D batteries for every trip would get old. Otherwise, a bucket is always a great option.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm going to install a bilge pump that runs off my trolling motor battery. In times like that, I dont want to have to rely on 3 D batteries, just not worth the risk should it ever happen.

That's a great ideal, and the bigger, the better. Shore can seem like a long way when the boats leaking.
