Default New here and looking

Looking for a new or used boat. Under 16 foot with side console, and about a 30 hp motor. Was looking at Tracker, and Lowe, with Mercury, or Evinrude or Johnson. Any thing I need to lookout for? Dose it make a difference on age of motor? I see Johnson is kind of a thing of the past.

Thanks
Don

I'd try to stick with a motor that was made within the last 15-20 years at the oldest. Some shops won't work on the really old ones. (25+) or parts can be difficult to find.

I have a 16 foot and when I bought it there was a 35 hp on it, topped out at 12-13 mph with 2-3 people and all my stuff on it. Finally found a 50 (thanks Mercman) and it goes 27-28 mph loaded with TILT. Love the hydraulic tilt wouldn't buy another boat without it.

Get all you can the first time, it seems to take forever to upgrade. (At least if you are married it takes a long time)
