Officials say overcrowding a factor in boating accident

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say overcrowding contributed to a deadly boating accident on the Missouri River near Nebraska City last month.

Ignacio Roman-Bahena drowned Nov. 22 when the boat he and four others were in capsized.

The Otoe County attorney’s office says too many people were on the boat. The 10-foot long boat had a capacity of two people or 314 pounds, or 354 pounds including equipment and the motor.

The boat was traveling at about 5 mph when water came over the bow and swamped the boat, causing it to capsize about 50 feet from shore.

All five passengers fell into the river. None was wearing a life jacket.

Five adult males in a 10-foot, 300-lb.+ capacity jon boat, on the ice-cold Missouri River, and none were wearing a life jacket. I sure hope alcohol was involved; I don't want to believe anyone could be that stupid sober.

Problem 1
10 foot jon boat in the Missouri River. With a trolling motor!
Problem2
5 people at 200 lbs each, plus gear = around 1100 lbs or so.
Problem 3
No life jackets
Problem 4
