It was about the color of melted chocolate ice cream.

What color was the oil you put in the gearcase? It should not have changed colors that fast. I got your pm and answered you back.

Also if you added fresh oil to the lower unit it would not come out jet black. This is completly normal and nothing to repair. A trustworthy tech will pressure check it if in question. What color was the gear oil when you drained it?

Buy the screw in pump and pump it in. In this cold weather the oil is thick enough to stand a spoon in it. Contact me if you wish about this. I hope you don't take it to Omaha Marine Center cause you are a richer man than I.

Yikes have fun with him.
I agree if the gear oil wasn't creamy white or milky when you drained it you probably dont have a serious problem. But if it was that could mean you getting water in the lower unit. That is not good when winter rolls around and freezes !! could bust the housing. I still squeeze the bottle but it's always warm when I do it

yeah, I already got this fixed, back in November. The shift shaft bushing was out. The tech said it lost pressure when it they shifted it, otherwise it held air pressure. It was definitely water in the gear lube.

Default Lower unit goop

I have had my lower unit leak water in over the summer season . The gear oil looks like a vanilla malt when drained, but if your seals are so worn that oil leaks out you had better get them replaced. I always do my own winterizing so I have a gear oil pump, they arent very expensive and I think I got mine at Walmart. You can do the squeezing way but its way to difficult. I like your boat , it looks good and you have to think about the "fish per dollar " cost as you spend more money for a boat . I hope this helps.
