Got this critter buy surprise! Had to get a second opinion by Daryl B. and he confirmed that it was an Orangespotted Sunfish. We caught two that day at a local Sandpit. The state record is 3 oz. and this one looks close to that size. Nope, don't have my 50 species control device for this one but I will put it on anyway. You will just have to believe me.

Okay, so it's not the biggest Yellow Perch in the world but it counts! Yippee! I caught a couple others as well and they were all little. Used a 1" twister tail. Of course, caught and released. What fish will be #10? This should be an interesting week of fishing!

*I was using a spoon and fixing my raincoat sleeve when I got a huge hit! Then my spool reeled! This fish was big and it ran! I thought I had a nice Wiper on! After being towed for around 5 minutes we finally got a glimpse of the fish. A CARP! You have to be kidding! The tournament was giving a prize for the largest Carp so we kept it. I got beat out in the last hour by a bigger Carp. It was a fun catch though!* :aaAFish:The best thing is I got add a fish to my 50 species!

CJ and I fished at Rock Creek today after taking care of some rentals at the lake. It was a cool June day with winds out of the south. I don't even know if it reached 60 degrees today! :icefishing: I was casting a White Spinnerbait at the edge of weedbeds and nailed a 21 inch Channel Cat for fish #1. Then later in a channel I got a nice little Largemouth on a weedless pastic worm for fish #2. Well, got two in the bag!:picture: We are headed out tomorrow again to what surprises we can come up with.:eusa_dance: Notice I even have my own homemade control device and it has the NEFGA logo on it!:D

50 Species at Age 50

Okay, here it is June 7th and I have no pics yet of any fish! Well, I have been fishing and caught some fish but no pics yet! I have been helping CJ with his catches and putting on the tournament kind of delayed my qwest as well. My plan is to catch all of the fish from a kayak and get a picture of each one.

Unofficially, I have caught many species already including at Goldeye, Drum, White Perch, Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, Red Ear Sunfish, Walleye, and Smallmouth Bass. Wow! That's nine species already! But they don't count! I have to get a picture and catch them from a kayak!:wSick: Hopefully, I can get someone to go with me on these trips and get a few shots of the fish. (If I catch any!) This is a fun challenge and will be a lot of fun! :D

Species Caught So Far....

#1-Channel Catfish
#2-Largemouth Bass
#3-Bluegill/Green Sunfish Hybrid
#4-Red Ear Sunfish
#5-Carp
#6-Bluegill
#7-Freshwater Drum
#8-Rock Bass
#9-Yellow Perch
#10-Orangespotted Sunfish
#11-White Bass

This blog will be dedicated to the qwest of catching 50 species of fish at age 50 starting May 29th, 2009. I know it will take some traveling so if you would like to help me out and have a species of fish not listed in this blog or fishing reports please let me know and I would love to travel and catch a fish or two with you. In return I would bring an extra kayak for you to try out and fish as well. It will be a challenge and I am ready for this adventure!:D
