Went out with my Dad this weekend. Fish were slow and not responding to spinners so we switched over to cranks. After trying a few different kinds we started catching fish on pike pattern floating rapala type lures. The key was to work them slow. I would cast out next to a weedline/cattails, let the lure sit for a couple seconds, pull it down and let it wobble a few times, pause to let it float up to within 6" of the surface and then pull it down again. I repeated this process until my retrieve was complete. We caught a few fish in the 20 to 24 inch range and then while I was waiting for my dad to back the trailer in to load the boat I caught a nice 28" fish. Here are a couple from yesterday. If you fish weedy lakes like the Refuge Lakes, Alda, Goose, Stanton, etc. Give a Rapala a shot. I probably should have racked leaves this weekend but I thought to myself, when I'm dying someday I probably won't lay there thinking I should have racked those leaves instead of go fishing.
