Making the commitment to quit is of paramount importance. Your commitment needs to be unwavering. For example, if you use the patch, you will experience withdrawals when you step down from 21mg to 14mg and from 14mg to 7mg. I would imagine the same would be the case for gum, as you step down, you will experience withdrawals.
The advantage of quitting cold turkey is that you deal with your withdrawals up front. Nicotine, however, leaves your system quickly.
Whichever method you choose, you must be committed to quitting; that commitment will be tested at various junctures during the process and must be strong enough to take you through the most dire and most subtle cravings....
It can be done, you will feel much better after you do quit.
