As you figured out the shot does not have a live virus. The nasal spray does, but it has been modified as to not be able to surviive in the lungs. This is true of all flu vaccines, not just the H1N1. We were able to get my oldest child the shot due to his asthma. (Those with Asthma should not get the nasal spary).
We got both of our kids the H1N1 vaccine and am not concerned at all. I would be more concerned if they didn't get it.
