That's why people pay the $60 to get an igfa apporved hand scale. Weigh the fish, take pictures and measurements, let the fish go, and send in the scale for checking. You can get an IGFA C&R world record and the fish lives. Learned about that after I released a 5.9 lbs lane snapper in pensacola while the world record was still only 4lbs. C&R world records are getting more and more popular and I think is how all sportfish records should be if the fish is in good enough condition to swim off.
