Wowser's Chad and OBG, thanks for all that info

. In preparation for this contest, I am reading and studying my buttocks off on all these other species

!
Today I thought I had a great game plan to go after crappies, bluegills and catfish at a nearby pond (Of course before I read your sage advice tonight). Armed with 3 doz minnows, stinky stuff in a tube, and 2 doz leaches (Sheesh, first time going mano-a-mano with a leach

--would have made quite an entertaining You Tube video)--plus a couple crappie and lindy rigs--I figured I had a shot. Weeeellllllllllllllllllll reality always trumps theory

, doesn't it?. All I caught was LM Bass! Lots of em! Mostly 9"-13". Never saw a trace of any other species although, the pond is known for them.

.
I am not complaining---had tons of fun. It was just perplexing not finding a crappie, bluegill or cat at the end of the line after the fight. My learning curve is still quite near vertical

.
Even got some youngsters fishing with sticks, line, hooks and some Berkley finesse worms I had in my kit. Now, some may say me helping kids fish is like the blind leading the blind

---and I agree. But we had fun, and they asked when I would be back

.
Thanks and Cheers
