I am using the Fuji S700. Not high priced--around 180 bucks. 10 meg and 10x zoom.

What I learned and damn well should have known was to enlarge the pic to 100% and then crop the image. Then when the picture is reduced to store the details stay with it unlike what happens when you reduce the whole picture.

I get the same results now with the Canon Rebel Xti but this little one is handier in some ways. Also a tripod is important for the shakey shooter.
